Title: Consistent MAP failures
Post by: Gunzy on March 31, 2014, 03:36:28 PM
So I've gone through like 4 MAP sensors in 6 months. Always after a high RPM 3-4 gear pull. Replaces the connector and it blew the next day again. What gives, the harness appears good, grounds are solid, every time it has blown its been a WOT pull above 7k, one time it blew immediately after my TBB boot blew off.

Car is running 30psi on gt28's for reference. Thanks for any ideas.

Codes:

Manifold/barometric sensor (g71)/(f96): implausible signal

Manifold pressure/boost sensor (g31): signal too low

Do you have the N249 still?

Yea I do.

Also, I'm running a MBC if that changes anything.

Didn't you say that the N249 was deleted in your thread on AZ?

Post the P-codes

Sounds like the N249 isn't working to me. Massive boost spikes far in excess of the rating.

2nd. I can't imagine the turbo is going to last long if he's been blowing MAPs.

I thought that it had been deleted but that was my old car, it is hooked up, I went ouT to the car and double checked. Those codes were:

16621 - Manifold Pressure / Boost Sensor (G31): signal too low
P0237 - 35-00--
16490 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96): implausible signal
P0106 - 35-00--

Boost guage and zeitronix shows 30psi constant

Also, sorry meant if I didn't say, built motor/heads twin gt2863x b5 s4.

I'd consider running a different MAP at this point.

You don't have to do the whole 5120 hack, you'd only have to fix the MAP transfer function.

TDI map or something?

I've never heard of a sensor just dying from too much pressure.

Shock from the TBB flying off or maybe even 30 PSI and N249 delete makes sense, but not almost a MAP a month just from relatively high boost pressure.

IMO it's either a wiring issue with his Zeitronix controller or engine harness or it's his ECU (barometric pressure sensor G91).

OP, anyway you can test one of your blown MAP's in another S4?

Not really, I can maybe send one out to someone but I don't know anyone around with a B5 unfortunately.

Another thing is, it only happens in a hard 3-4th gear run, high pressure and I haven't monitored the 4th gear spike. I'm on 710n's too, maybe they can't handle the hit?
