I tried to search, but didnt come up with much.
I was helping a local with an issue he is having with his car trying to get it to pass CA smog.

The check engine light does not come on and go off when you first turn the ignition on, this is a requirement for CA smog.  I tried another ECU and the same issue, different cluster also.

The odd thing is the cel does come on for an engine fault, so it is active.

Any insight?

I remember this being a problem in another thread from ages ago.  I'll have a Google.

Can't remember the coding issue - sure a CW is different in the file.

CWNOMIL, but that's not the issue here unless he's using some obscure euro variant.

Any chance it's an A6 engine harness?

its an M box ecu, and it must be an a6 harness someone swapped in, cause i couldnt plug in the spare ecu as the tab was not correct going into the ecu.

Then it's a single wire causing your issue.

orange connector
pin 10 blue/lilac
it's on the black connector on the A6 harness
Move it to the orange connector (pin to match).
