Title: Audi rs4 b5 egt sensor upgrade from rs6
Post by: ported2flow on May 22, 2012, 05:49:52 AM
Hi
I have read on the s4 wiki page that it's possible
To upgrade the ori egt sensors to the rs6 ones so the
Actual real temperature is shown in the measureblock but it's needed
To recalibrate the ecu?

Who has done that? I wanna do it on my ecu some hints were cool

Thanks a lot

"If you see block 034 EGTs hitting 750 or 800 or 850, those values have never been, are not and will never be actual EGTs. The only real EGTs are in block 112. If you want to know what they are when they're below 945, then you have to use RS6 sensors with adequate programming, so you get a range of -40 to 1100°C and then you will know what your real EGTs are."

I ment this from s4 wiki or did I get it wrong and I just have to connect the sensors normally to the wires?

Thx

Hi,

in the original wirediagram, both EGT sensors have a equal pinout.
So you can change it plug&play.
The 100ms PWM timing to the ECU, is also equal.

But you must import "TABGTA" and "DTPATS" from the RS6 ECU to your S or RS4 ECU.

In the RS6 "TABGTA" you can see that the EGT sensor have a measurement bandwidth from -40 till 1110 degree Celsius.
The RS4 / S4 EGT sensor can only measure between 940 and 1035 degree Celsius.

The "DTPATS" stands for the PWM periodical timing tolerance (RS4 = 50ms, RS6 = 20ms).

If the RS6 sensors are build in, and "TBGTA" and "DTPATS" are changed, you can see in VCDS measurementblock 112, also now realtime temperatures under 940 degree Celsius in your ECU.

ok, awesome info, someone toss this on the wiki...

Tommmm youuu made my day!!!! Great!

Will test that on my 3.2T!!

Do you have address information for these takes?

searching mbox gives me

 TABGTA (0x1C4DE, axis 1C4BA)
 DTPATS (0x192F0)

Also, can you paste the RS6 values of TABGTA?

In TABGTA you also have to change the X-Axis Data!

RS4 - 8D0907551K - 0261207001 - 1037360387

TABGTA (18x1 - 16bit LoHi) - degree celsius - at 1CC78 / X-Axis - %PWM - at 1CC54

DTPATS (1x1 - 8bit) - ms - at 19572

**************************************************************************
RS6 - 4D1907558 - 0261207857- 1037366304

TABGTA (18x1 - 16bit LoHi) - degree celsius - at 1F5CA / X-Axis - %PWM - at 1F5A6

DTPATS (1x1 - 8bit) - ms - at 1971E

I assume you mean TABGTA not TABGTS

Also, the s4 EGT PWM doesn't have very good resolution... can this be improved? with the wider range of the rs6 egts it might be an issue

Might it be possible to change the axis non linear, to aim a higher resolution on critical temps?

Sorry, you're right... I mean TABGTA.
I have fixed it  ;)

Nope, the resolution problem is on the pwm side...

The RS6 EGTS resolution is 1% = 12.5 degree

A non linear axis makes sense.

With a asymetric axis you can realise a narrow band measurement at high critical temperatures in the region of TABGSS (980 degree celsius) and a wide band measurement at low degrees.

The sensor output is linear from -40 - 1110°C so a non linear axis won't change anything  ;)

I have never actually measured the PWM with a oscilloscope but what I can say is that the "RS6 type" sensors are still used by OEMs for calibrating the EGT model on turbo cars without a sensor and they work just fine compared to type K thermocouples (just a bit slow on dynamic situations because of the big diameter).

So no worries here.

Can anyone confirm this works and is plug and play (with minor sw changes named above)?

Can anyone confirm part numbers?

I found the following:
Bank one : 077 919 529E
Bank two : 077 919 529D
Both        : 077 998 124

These are not cheap sensors, so I doubt I will be able to make this happen anytime soon.

I was thinking about replacing tabgm_w with actual EGT for BTS.

Yes it works, and yes they are muchos expensive.

I jinxed myself, bank 1 EGT gave up on me yesterday.

Maybe I will make this happen sooner than I intended.

Can anyone confirm those part numbers?

I installed the EGTS yesterday and found out you also have to change TATSMN and TATSMX otherwise you get DTC P1454 and P1458.
Works fine now.

Great thread! What about actually using EGT when originally there was none? Is it possible to connect it to 4B0906018DC ME7.5 ecu? What maps besides ATR function maps should I copy from RS6 file?

I would like to disable ATM and use ATR instead

Title: Re: Audi rs4 b5 egt sensor upgrade from rs6

If the code is present in the binary and just disabled then yes, but that seems doubtful.

Convert to a differeny binary, seems like there's a million ME7.5 1.8t files.

I don't know about completely replacing ATM with ATR, but replacing individual variables is reasonable. I plan to use actual EGT for BTS for example.

This is not how it is done from factory.
Have you looked at RS6 code?

I have not. I'm not too concerned with how it was done on the RS6 though.

Do you see a drawback?

Do the RS6 incorporate something better?

RS6 has a 3D target EGT map for each bank and BTS is not used.
The idea of BTS is to pre-enrich before ATR kicks in on cars that have EGT's fitted.

I understand BTS. Why not use actual EGT to enable BTS vice modeled?

ATR will still be there for intervention at critical temps, but enable BTS when tats_w exceeds TABGBTS vice tabgm_w.

I confirmed with Sid who makes PCB boards for RS4/S4 EGTs that he can supply RS6 PCBs and, what is very interesting, that probe is exactly the same between S4 and Rs6 and the only difference is in conversion algorithm coded into chips at time of production. So it boils down to everything being identical but the conversion of Voltage to PWM signal values and naturally part# / different cases for bank1/bank2 EGT modules.

FWIW i can confirm this. I got the same information from somebody I trust. The only diff is the PWM encoding.

Excellent, I have been meaning to inquire with him about this.  Is he going to start offering the PCB's?  ETA?

I'm in for a pair.

Group buy?

Hello!

Does this indicate that EGT sensors are kaput? I bought RS6 egts, but im not sure that are the old ones broken?

Hi!

I would like to adapt wideband RS6 C5 EGT sensors, but I have one question...
It will work on C-Box?

Thanks for your answers.
