I've never seen that. I just picked up a pair of 2150cc from FIC and it has all the numbers on it.

Honestly Nye, I think it's to prevent confusion. If you see a part number you assume that it's correct and may make bad assumptions. Removing or otherwise obscuring it lets you know it's not an off the shelf part. This is quite common.
