Hi,

I know for a fact that 8D0907551D works on 4B0907551F ECU (1999 A6 AJK), but I was unable to flash anything else onto it. I had the immo removed from my ECU beforehand, but I suspect it would cause problems.

What I'm really interested in, is it possible to flash M-box software onto that (4B0907551F) ECU? I found a couple of threads on this forum suggesting that it's possible. I tried and failed using MPPSv13, the ECU doesn't even identify itself after flashing. Is there something basic that I am missing? I have a backup ECU (4B0907551J) but that one doesn't even work on 8D0907551D software.

Regards,
Luke

It should work but remember that S4 files can't be switched back and forth between 6sp and tip.

Try using NEF or bootmode for the initial flashing.

I dug up my old KKL interface and used Nefmoto instead of MPPS, worked like a charm. There are some unforeseen side effects, 8D0907551M software totally ignores MAF (regardless of MLOFS value), same thing happens on 8D0907551G. Using 8D0907551F is even worse, not only MAF is ignored but cam adjustment reports some fake electrical errors.

My ECU was pulled out of an A6 2.7T Tiptronic and it's currently running what I believe is S4 6sp software, if there are some side effects I just haven't noticed any.

Neither of those makes sense, unless you are using a BEL harness with the M box. Do not do that.

The ECU itself is swappable, that isn't the issue. The issue is using a file in car with the wrong trans type.

Generally my setup looks like this: engine, loom and ecu were taken from A6 1999 Tiptronic, flywheel was taken from AMX (2.8 30V) and mounted with sachs performance clutch, gearbox and diff came from ADR (1.8 20V), all of that went into a 1996 (originally ABC) shell.

During engine swap the body harness required some alterations (all plugs on body side had to be changed), additional break and clutch signals were added (body side), reverse light signal (engine side), electronic throttle body (body side). Generally all was well but the engine software ignored the clutch signal, side effect was that during WOT acceleration in between gears the engine would hit the rev limiter even with closed throttle. For unknown reasons the ECU with its original software didn't respond to recoding attempts, so I reflashed it.

All engine operations seem to be unaffected, the donor car had ABS/ASR, instrument cluster with FIS and CAN bus, the recipient doesn't have ASR, FIS nor CAN, so those things throw of DTC, apart from that all seems to be well.

I did however need to adapt the fueling a bit, because after reflashing it was running very lean mixtures. KRKTE, FKKVS and KFKHFM were modified enough to compensate for fuel system differences between the old and new shells. It currently puts out 276/310 (206kW/420Nm). I've been running this setup since February on all sorts of rally events so if something is wrong it would be nice to know what to look for.

Thanks,
Luke
