I took my ECU out of the car, and benched it just to bootmode it for the SKC. (ARGDUB's me7_95040)
The 95040 had the skc FF'd out (32,33). (frustration)
-so I flashed the attached 95040_virgin_immo (immo on), adapted it to the car Via VCDS, drove it around, no DTC's, no issues.
-benched and bootmoded, the 95040 shows the bits 32 & 33 FF'd out again.
-back in the car, the same unedited ecu needed to be adapted again?! as though boot-moding the ecu arms it somehow?
Am I doing this in the wrong order? using the wrong tools? at this point, I know I could clone an ECU if I needed to, but I can't get the SKC to save my life.

any help is much appreciated

Are you sure your car has an immobilizer? If it's a NA car, I don't think it does.

prior to adaption, when I put the ecu back into the car, the dash reads "immobilizer" and the car won't remain started. I assume that means that the car is immo, but maybe I'm not understanding the system correctly.

Comparing the attached pic to this Ross-Tech article indicates that I am definitely immo 2

regarding channel 91:
17,08,091 or 25,08,091 yields

I believe 4 means ready for adaptation/not matched.

I can't find any info on what '4' means from ecu channel 091.
I had to adapt the ecu before the car would start, the readiness is set for all channels, and there are no DTC's.  I have every reason to believe that the ECM is successfully adapted.

Oh well, I'll leave it alone i guess, I really just want to know my own SKC.

I don't suppose there's a simple .exe hack to make vag-tacho work with other cables?

thanks for the help.

I can make vag-tacho work with any ftdi based cable I damn well please. It still sucks Smiley

Vag Commander K+CAN is much better, and with a bit of searching you can find everything you need (including the program) on this site (posted by me!) I may have also posted a working copy of vag-tacho (Have I mentioned how terrible it is yet?) as well.

mprog will reflash a generic cable to a vagtacho if you have the right ept file.

If your endorsement goes for VAG Commander k+can, then I'm certainly willing to put in some search time to get it together.

my only cable is a genuine Ross-Tech cable, so If flashing the cable is my only option for use with vag-commander then I'll need to purchase an additional ft232r cable.   -which is a petty issue in the grand scheme of things

Thanks to each of you for taking the time to help me sort this all out.

I'm honestly wondering if the SKC ever gets handed to the ECM for immo II, since the cluster is the center of the immo II system.

EDIT/followup 2012-03-07:
The original 95040.bin's of Immo II vw's consistently have the pin ff'ed out, and the vin xx'ed out.  I don't thinkthat Immo II vw's ever had the pin stored in the ECU, because Immo II doesn't compare the pin,vin and immo ID the way that immo II does.
