Title: 4Z7907551M allroad APB
Post by: m_haiser on April 07, 2018, 08:14:41 PM
what ive done or tried to do was copy a handful of maps from the community tune to the tune im running on my allroad but before i flash it i wanted to see if someone could take a look at it and see if ive done it correctly or if there are improvements to be made. please let me know!

any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to do this on my own but all the guides and the wiki are really vague it says to adjust something but not how much or where in the rev range or whatever.
come on guys I need more power!

Hi m_haiser,
I'm afraid that I don't fully understand. I read your post and it says that you copied a handful of maps from the community tune to the tune your already running.
What tune are you already running exactly?

I really don't understand.

All the best
O.T.

No mention of spec, engine, goals, what you actually changed, how you changed it, what do you expect from your changes...

Post by: m_haiser on April 11, 2018, 08:25:16 AM
fair enough I was a bit too vague. I have a 2002 allroad apb tiptronic.
I used the community stage 1 2.7t bin to copy fueling/boost pid/and ldrxn maps onto a copy of my bin (which currently just has egt coded out)
so I guess what I'm asking is if those maps are copied correctly, and if this will work as a starting point to a "stage 1" map.

Post by: m_haiser on April 16, 2018, 12:36:35 PM
ok starting over on the whole stage 1 thing, working using the community stage 1 project as reference. ive got mrfa change to go from 50-97%
however when I open lamfa I don't have an rpm range, the left side of the table starts at 0.0 then to 5120 and alternates back and forth between those.
is this another table I need to change or is something not meshing between the 4z7907551m bin and the 551l xdf?

You have to use a definition file for your file.

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: m_haiser on April 16, 2018, 02:26:30 PM
from what I have read and searched for there isn't one. I have a 4Z7907551M

You'll need to make one then.

Or crossflash to 8D0907551L or 8D0907551M depending if you are tip or manual

do you really think recommending cross flashing is a good idea? cuz i dont. what are you learing by flashing someone elses work? nothing thats what. how to locate maps is very easy and i feel a better understanding of the ecu and logic should be had by noobs to cut down on the nonsense threads.

Yea, I know. There is a middle ground though, where you can recommend starting with stock and a well defined xdf. I think there is plenty to be learned there (without having to make your own map definition), as long as he isn't just flashing the community file.

And I'm also not opposed to people just flashing the community file, because at least everyone that contributed has given their own tacit permission for others to blindly copy it.

That is NOT true with commercial tunes...

now if I cross flash will I run into any issues with ride height control since its an allroad?

No, you shouldn't but you WILL LOSE IMMO

Get a spare ECU and/or back up your eeprom before flashing.

alright, does this appear to be a good read on the 95040?
if so, does the me7eeprom tool write over obd yet or still boot mod only?
thanks guys!

It's bootmode only.

damn that's what I was afraid of. alright well did you by chance check out the read and see if it is correct/complete?

sucessfully crossflashed just now, maiden voyage will be on the way home from work (what better place to have car troubles than a dealership) surprisingly no key light or immo issues. wish me luck!

spoke too soon. immediately after flash the car started, but later on it wouldnt and neither nefmoto nor vcds will connect to the ecu so now it is bricked. and when i try to use galletto (albeit a bootleg copy, it says "Start data reading...Opening port impossible"
please help this is my only car

Is Galletto working with com port? Which port does galletto listen too und which port does the cable actually use in device manager?

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: adam- on May 18, 2018, 03:21:05 AM
Did you checksum the file?

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: m_haiser on May 18, 2018, 08:36:41 AM
realized after it was too late I did not checksum the file (which I did after realizing it but that doesn't help unless I can unbrick).
Im not sure what port galetto uses, how do I find out? my cable typically uses com port 4

Second pin from the left bottom of chip is boot pin correct? Can't seem to get into boot mode at all(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180518/6f1bf2bec881a426323ba18a4a94c9f2.jpg)

You are using galletto to write the flash or the eeprom?

They are two very different things.

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: m_haiser on May 18, 2018, 11:14:36 AM
trying to use it to write the flash after having flashed with a non checksum-ed file and bricked the ecu. may very well need to rewrite the eeprom later but ill cross that bridge when I come to it.

well I am not getting "boot mode inactive" so the com port issue is resolved but nothing else. please help

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: nyet on May 18, 2018, 04:08:24 PM
did you flash a checksummed file?

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: m_haiser on May 18, 2018, 04:11:21 PM
the file I flashed yesterday was not checksummed. I now cannot connect to the ecu to reflash

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: nyet on May 18, 2018, 04:13:32 PM
You said you are not getting "boot mode inactive", which means galletto should be able to flash it in boot mode.

Title: Re: dont know if im doing this right....
Post by: m_haiser on May 18, 2018, 04:16:57 PM
my mistake, I AM getting "boot mode inactive"
I am no longer getting "opening port impossible"

I have changed your topic because you never bothered to.

Title: Re: 4Z7907551M allroad APB
Post by: nyet on May 18, 2018, 04:41:10 PM
It is a ME7.1 ecu so it should be very very easy to get into bootmode if you follow the instructions. You never mentioned what you have tried and how you are doing bootmode without a bench cable.

It's primitive but it worked for my cluster coding when I had my jetta. Power and ignition switches, ecu plug,  obdport with K line.  I have tried grounding pin 24 to ecu board as well as bridging the 2 ports on the board that have been mentioned I've tried everywhere from 4 to 15 seconds holding the ground on then power on release ground then connect.  Nothing has worked. in order.
ground boot pin, power on, wait 5-15 seconds, release ground on boot pin, tell galetto to read ecu. "boot mode inactive"
bridge the 2 pads, power on, wait, release the bridge, command galetto, "boot mode inactive"
from what ive been reading it can be driver compatibility issues. thats kind of where im at.
i have even tried ground pin 24, power on, wait, release ground, ign off (power on however) command galetto "boot mode inactive"

Title: Re: 4Z7907551M allroad APB
Post by: nyet on May 18, 2018, 04:54:22 PM
That should work. If it was driver problem I think you would get port open failure, as you said before. "boot mode inactive" is a good sign, it means galletto is talking to the cable correctly (I hope).

then I don't know wtf is going on. I cannot get the ecu to communicate.

Title: Re: 4Z7907551M allroad APB
Post by: nyet on May 18, 2018, 05:02:04 PM
All I can suggest is to get another cable off of ebay (ftdi based) and hack galletto to see the correct serial num.

Title: Re: 4Z7907551M allroad APB
Post by: m_haiser on May 18, 2018, 05:11:05 PM
I did that with this one already. used m-prog to change the serial of my cable to match galetto (after saving its original serial)
I don't want to resort to buying an ecu off ebay but its that or mail this one off to someone and hope they can fix it all while not having a car to drive

also worth noting, nefmoto will not connect in boot mode or otherwise.
i can only think its not going into boot mode for some reason.

Or maybe your bench harness is missing a few things?

Title: Re: 4Z7907551M allroad APB
Post by: m_haiser on May 19, 2018, 11:21:28 AM
its wired exactly as the diagram says, only difference that i can tell is the k line from obd port splits to go to the cluster plug, and the ecu plug. there is nothing currently connected to the cluster plug though. would that cause issue?

Post by: m_haiser on May 20, 2018, 12:22:02 PM
i have now tried boot mode in the car and still get boot mode inactive.
key in and on, disconnect battery, ground boot pin, reconnect battery, command galetto.
nothing.

Hi, i see a long time gone, but how you solve this problem, do you successfully cross-flashing 8D0907551 M-box file to 4Z7907551M? Because I'm thinking to do that on my 2002 Audi A6 6-speed 4B0907551AK but I'm afraid to brick the ecu. Thanks

if I had check summed the file properly im sure there would have been no issues.
I am currently running an s4 mbox so my abs/level controls are not happy.

Yes. As long as they are the same version (ME7.1 vs ME7.1.1) and the same flash size (512MB vs 1024MB) the 2.7t ecus are cross flashable.

this is was to be expected, you need to change the original file creating a definition for your file, you need to go this way the only way to succeed

write me in personal messages which maps and variables you need, since I sometimes have free time, I will try to create a definition file for your computer. The file will be available to everyone

For you a6 K-box. Searched quickly so that errors are possible, check. Do not forget to recalculate the checksum. I attach ols file 4B0907551K.ols

for anyone curious as to how I solved this. the ecu soft coding was incorrect and I feel dumb.
ecu was coded as 06651 (non abs) whereas it needed to be 06751 (with abs)
thank you all
