Hello,

I might be able to help you. What happened that stopped the key working in the first place?

Did you manage to retrieve your SKC?

It could be either the transponder chip in the key, or the pickup coil in the steering column. You need to work out which it is first.

(not sure how to do this!)

I managed to recode a new transponder and remote, but I'm still not entirely sure how I did it in the end.

From Ross Tech
"
Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Immobilizer Reader Coil faulty
Immobilizer Reader Coil faulty
Immobilizer Transponder in Key faulty OR incorrect Transponder in Key

When found in Audi A3 (8L), Audi A4 (8D), Audi A6 (4B) or Audi A8 (4D), check Wiring from Immobilizer Control Module to Immobilizer Reader Coil. A known issue would be the Length of the Wiring, an optimized Replacement Part may be available (8D0-972-275).
"

When I tried using the vag com procedure I couldn't get it to learn the new transponder but in the end it worked using Vag + can + K commander 2.5. I'll see if I can dig out the links I used.

Your 97 is probabaly immo2? Mine is immo3 so not directly comparable (also a LEON, not A4).

thanks carl i  will have a look for more info about Immobilizer Reader Coil

i was told that i have immo 1 box not sure, the guy i bought the key from told me that audi changed mid year from a t5 transponder to a t6 so i could have the wrong transponder will have to order a t5 key to check ,he told me he doesnt know how i would be able to check ,i have tried vag com and the key does match and tried in vag tacho, what i cant figure is why my old key wont work how would the chip just break

but will look into the coil just need to find out where it is

cheers paul

The transponder in the key is a tiny coil encapsulated in a glass bead. It can fail.

You can't match second hand transponders to a different ECU. You can buy transponders new for a few quid from http://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?cat=104&menu=1 but you'll need to research which is the correct one. You've already extracted the immo details using vagcom so you should be able to find out which is the appropriate one.

Here is a link to the procedure using vag commander http://www.vag-info.com/USER_MANUAL_VAG_K%2BCAN_2_6.pdf  You want section 3.5.9.1 I think.

The other option is always to disable the immobiliser but that just as complicated unless you have access to electronic rework kit.

thanks carl

i have tried to find out what the transponder is but im just not finding the info

i ordered this key with the t6 ,but it seems it could be the t5

http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk/products/Audi-A4-transponder-key-HU66AT.html

but i will look at the immo coil in the morning i hope its that i have had some water leaking in to the car in the back driver side can that cause the immo to stop, have check the drains in the car and it is clean thanks for the vag commander link but i dont think my cables would work i will try, thanks for all the info it gives me alot to do tomorrow

Just an odd question, Why wouldn't you look into defeating the Immo?

There are ALOT of people here in the forums that would be able to assist you, and or do it our selves.
