hey all - am fairly new to all this but i have managed to pull this EEPROM from the car using ross tech cable. this is  BAM engine

i am wanting an SKC to be able to put in a new cluster but the information i've got from my .bin doesn't seem to provide me with a proper SKC. so i'm thinking to try and defeat the immo...

i can get an ODB/ECU harness (spare ECU too but it's AMK) - just need to clarify something. if i wanted to immo defeat i would need to
A) do in situ and ground pin 24 to get into boot mode OR
B) do a bench flash (would i still have to ground 24?)

and will i be able to upload the file using the ross-tech cable?

previous to getting a remap done my part number was 8N0 906 018 BJ, then post getting a remap it's now 8N0 906 018 J. what's happened there?

You need to ground the pin to get it into boot mode, regardless of whether it is in the car or on the bench. Generally I prefer to do it on the bench.

Your ECU part number has changed because it has been cross flashed with a file from another ECU (or the tuner has made up their own part number to make reverse engineering their changes harder).

his attached file is stock?!?

you can also read the current/old skc from the cluster with vag eprom programmer

I ran the file through the program and it stated that the flash was the incorrect file.

ok so it looks like this is just the flash file NOT the immo file

not the right file i want! LOL

*newbie alert*
so i'm in the process of making a bench setup - i have the ECU harness & OBD unravelled and a spare ECU to practice on

will post back when i have this one going :)

Hardware I'm using
- MacBook Pro w/boot camp
- genuine Ross-tech cable

Basically I'm either getting an echo message and can't connect
Or it's failing to open comport

I set up my bench kit. So what I did so far

Got the ECU, OBD port and the big harness from the ECU

Using the "reading/writing/cloning" immo guide I've soldered wires (using the big wiring harness) for pin3, 21, 62 so they all meet at one point on a old stereo wiring harness.  Joined ground wires for pin 1&2 to the old stereo harnes. Joined wire for pin 43 to the stereo harness.

On the other side of the stereo harness I've connected the OBD port. So #4 lines up with ground on the stereo harness etc.
Coming off the +ve line from the OBD end of the harness I've T'd off a fused line to connect to power source. Coming off the -ve wiring is another wire that I can use to ground the ECU.

I've opened the ECU located the pin and dos the grounding procedure. Try to connect. And can't.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I've turned off boot in intelligent mode. In VCDS. VCDS shows the cable is in USB (not in any of the COM ports) so I don't know if that's a factor.

Plug I plug in VCDS cable to computer. Light goes green when I power the cabling...
I've tested for continuity right up to the ECU end of the harnes. All lines are good.

Hope that all makes sense...

You need to load cap drivers for the Ross tech cable. You need to be able to set a com port. Also I've never had my Ross tech cable work. I used a kkl cable only when doing bootmode. Also you can pull the eeprom file through your cars obd2 port

Going to try OBD method. Failing that a friend has the blue KKL that I'm getting later...

I was wondering how can I assign a com port of in device management the Ross tech is not assigned to one. Probably my issue right there!!!

+1 for kkl. My rosstech never worked with argdubs tool and the lead is too expensive to risk bricking it by messing around.

So I found a flash on here that exactly matched my old ECU part number... And all of a sudden boost is back up to 1 bar...

Previous to this was the "stock"/different part number ECU and that boosted only to .5. (I know the wrong thread to talk about this... Sorry!) but what the hell has just happened ???

RIGHT! i think i got it!!!

installed the blue KKL cable in full windows mode and was able to set a com port!!!! woohoo! (i got this via --OBD eco in car)

attached the pulled file . guys please have a look?

now with this file... am i able to copy it to this spare ecu that i have which is out of the car???
