Title: Need someone to tune for backpressure
Post by: Sugar_Mist on March 22, 2016, 08:30:17 PM
I have a  2001 1.8t gti with a stage 2 tune with a 3 inch ccalled downpipe. I was straight piped with stock exhaust diameter peaking at 21/22psi. I got a 2.25 inch MagnaFlow glass pack muffler(10425) to quiet the car down as it was too loud and now the car is misfiring above 15psi when cold.  When  the engine warms up the misfiring isn't as severe(no longer throwing me forward)  however the car seems to be restricted.  The boost Gauge reads 18-20psi however it struggled to accelerate. There are no misfire codes but there is a fuel trim code and an o2 sensor code. The o2 sensor is tuned out and I believe that is why those codes are up.  If someone can tune my car with the backpressure and tune out my engine code for the o2 sensor I will pay you. I have a vag cable so I would be able to log for you.

Likely unrelated to your exhaust.

Do some reading, by your posts it shows your very inexpieranced. Learn how to use me7 logger and post a csv.

Once I find my laptop charger I'll post a log if I can figure out how to

Okay so I am trying to log with my vag kkl cable and it isnt showing up in nefMoto software. it works in vcds lite and I installed ftdi drivers.

Okay I managed to log in VCDS lite for you. I will try ME7Logger in a bit if I can get it to recognise the cable.

Those logs don't have any important (usable) information. In addition, VCDS sampling rate is too low for your particular ecu, and important variables are not available for logging.

I try to read my ecu but my it won't connect to ecu??

Is my cable not supported? It works fine with VCDS but not with other programs.

Log 31,20,115 2k-6k 3rd gear

Log 31,20,115 2k-6k 3rd gear

No, get ME7L working or sell the car.

Also, post the actual codes.

Yikes, you invited me over to your house and I poured soda on your carpet.  Ordinarily you'd just have to get rid of the entire carpet, maybe even sell the house...

Can I log these with vcds lite? I bought a proper chipped cable which will be coming soon to log in ME7 logger.

You can log but it will be pretty useless data.

I can't log anything above 25 so I will just wait for my ft232rl Cable to come in and update you guys. Could it possibly be spark plug gap?

coilpacks, plugs, ICMs, EGTs etc.

Diagnosing misfires is kind of beyond the scope of the tuning thing, it really is basic repair/maint.

How is wideband lambda, timing correction and actual vs request boost useless? If the op is unable to to full high speed logs the basics would at least point in a general direction along with a list of dtc's

A list of DTCs would definitely be helpful.

The only DTCs that I have are for my ABS sensor and my o2 sensor that was tuned out.

Will I be able to read my ecu with a .75 amp 12 volt trickle charger connected to the battery?

Rear o2? And by tuned out you mean "not tuned out properly" :)

Trickle chargers are very bad.

Its possible to be tuned out without engine code?

That's the whole point of tuning it out.

Is it bank 1 sensor 1 or bank 1 sensor 2? Huge difference between the 2, if down stream was coded out properly your have no code. If you have a bad primary O2 sensor it could explain your issues. A list of p codes is needed for other members to help you figure out what's wrong. Also be sure you axed the right sensor considering you where running fine before you changed your exhaust. Seriously a list of p codes would do wonders.

Bank 1 sensor 2

im just curious here, why does it seem impossible to just scan the car and copy/paste the log?

p0136 There ya go. I don't know where the fuel trim code went but oh well.

Okay guys  have another symptom. Starting my car has been getting worse and worse these past few days. At first it took a little more cranking to get it starting and the revs would shoot up to 2k. And tonight starting I took three times times after it stalled out right when it started. I unplugged my MAF yesterday assuming it was the culprit but it wasn't. Could it be fueling related?

fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition, coils, plugged injectors.

You need a qualified mechanic, not a internet forum.

This applies a lot; and a lot of people seem to forget this.  The internet cannot diagnose noises, boost leaks or hardware issues. :(

Replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter for $50 total and she's running like a dream now :)

Likely not coded out correctly...
