Title: Battery charger?
Post by: Sugar_Mist on March 25, 2016, 11:20:55 AM
What battery maintainer is recommended for reading/flashing? I have .75 amp trickle charger will that be enough or do I need more power?

12V 500mA-1A wall wart or pc power supply is more than enough.

Battery chargers are bad, they have strange current limiting circuits.

NOT RECOMMENDED.

Also without acutal battery nothing will absorb the high voltage. Normally battery chargers output voltage is 15+v and have seen first hand fdi chips fail from higher then average battery voltage. As nye said use a 12v power supply not a battery charger

I use Doctor Charge 50 from Telwin. Has a supply and a diagnostc function which you can adjust

He's saying you CAN'T use a charger as a supply unless it is currently charging a battery, or you will have sever overvoltage.

He didn't say if it was in car or on the bench though.

12V/1000mA (Stabilized DC) would be fine on the bench. (As nyet already said)

For flashing in car I would go for something that can deliver higher current - although ME7 is quite forgiving and recoverable.

I have four HP server PSUs in parallell for in-car flashing, delivering clean 13.8V/216A.

I'm flashing in my car and I still don't understand what I'm supposed to buy. V110 used a battery charger and was able to read and flash is polo so that's what I'm going to do.

If your battery is in good condition, you don't absolutely need a charger (although it's good practice to have one connected). Make sure you shut off all accessories (dome lights, heated seats, etc.)

Heh, I had a small nail glowing with it. You are not saying it is overkill, do you? :o
It's OT at least. Sry.

Great charger. Not a good power supply.
