Title: nmax problem after installing RS4 ECU into S4
Post by: s-company on October 01, 2011, 02:07:01 AM
Hello!
we installed a RS4 ECU into a S4 Year 2000. (because rs4 engine is also installed)
after that the rev limiter is set to 6000rpm, no chance to get higher.
is there any coding possibility in the instrument cluster?
i tried several things, but with no success:-(

many thanks

br

Have you read the ECU and had a look at the mao?

yes map is ok, i tried to tune all revlimit maps, tried stock file and so on, nothing helps.
i think the problem is in the instrument cluster..

It's a cluster issue, I have seen it when the ecu is getting a bad rpm, oil or water temp signal.   There are maps that  determine engine speed on signal errors.

which maps do you mean? the only map i found was the codeword for revlimit, but this deactivates rev limter completely, too dangerous for me.

we also tried to install an rs4 cluster for testing, with this it works.
so i am sure as you said, its a cluster issue..

Yes it's the cluster.

Which ECU model is it?

You can solve this by changing tables in the engine ECU.

I can only see and rpm limiter at 5k for signal failure.

I can only see and rpm limiter at 5k for signal failure.

Do you mean Nmax for VSS signal error?

also this map does not help, i tried all rev limit maps...

@matchew

There is more than one NMAX. There is various NMAX values/maps depending on fault/condition.

Ok, which address'/tables have you altered to try and combat this?

165BE

your ecu dont see oil temp sensor so you must change rpm limiter vs oil temp.

There is no Nmax limiter at 0x165C7

Try putting 0x165D2 to 0x60 and 0x165D3 to 0x6D.

at 165c7 is this 6x1 map:NMAXTO

No it isnt, no 16 bit data can start on an ODD address!

Yea, that's ok if your map is defined properly. The first two numbers look really weird, probably because the map has 4 values not 6.

No, i have find yesterday i think that my 551F file definition has a mistake on this map, now i adjust and find it:

I will test on the car next week.

and your mods are correct!

IIRC 551F has 6 values and 551K 4 values in this map.
But now in the last screenshot the map is stock. Just set the entire map to the same value because with S4 cluster you won't have oil temp signal, and it will assume always a high temperature.

Yes PRJ, 1st map is Oil temperature VS RPM in my 551F damos. I change value of it in the screenshot to 7200 but the car limit run always to 6000rpm max.

I think i find error in this map, in this damos.

2nd screenshot is the same map whit other property that i have set, damos modification,  i've not change value in the screen shot, they are stock.

I change 6000 and 6500 to be sur to 7200, i will try this in the car next week.

Btw I recommend flashing that ECU with 551K.

551F has no misfire detection. A lot harder to diagnose misfires.
