Can't seem to find a thread that addresses this directly - I have a 518AK ECU that I want to use in a 2002 1.8 A4 that originally came with a 518E ECU. From what I gather can read 95040 chip immo info from original 518E ECU and write to 518AK donor ECU using ArgDub's tool then run car & modify 518AK file as I wish with 518AK ECU in car. Does this sound right?

the AK and AL are the same ecus and different to the rest of the 518 ecus and not compatible due to the chipset being different. If however you look at the Passat b5.5 me7/.5 ecu they are the same and will work...

Thanks- was hoping to use AK file since it is so well defined. As with my S4, I want to keep stock ECU aside as a backup and match another ECU to the car to tune. You have an opinion on a well defined ECU number that will work on a 518E car?

...and just to be clear, my intent is to adapt a 518AK ECU to the car, not to write a 518AK file to a 518E ECU!

So! Have a 518F immo off & running in the car to tune. Guess this means I have a 518AK box for sale!

Al and AK are from 2004 onward cars. So yes your F will work!

all of the 518ak files can be coded for auto, muanual, or cvt. They are not manual or auto specific. If you type 8e0909518ak into the search bar from the main page you may find 5+ results of stock files 

    unfortunately I only see one for a tiptronic unless I am missing something
