Post by: lowvo on May 25, 2016, 05:55:32 PM

Please post codes, trims, and logs.

How much better? Than what?

If your car barely runs maf plugged in but seems to run "fine" maf unplugged, you have a boost/vacuum leak.

Time to make a diy boost leak tester  ;D

I had this same issue until I replaced the MAF and both o2 sensors.

I finally recorded some logs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Please post DTCs and fuel trims.

It isn't clear what you mean by "better" either.

You have crazy high EGTs.

I have been chasing a particular issue for a very long time.

Symptoms: very loud sucking noise from intake, accompanied with very sluggish boost.  the boost will build but slowly.  throttle response is terrible.

At times the car runs very well and it is instantly noticeable if you are driving the car.  The boost seems to follow throttle input very closely and the car is amazing to drive in this state. the sucking noise goes away at the same time.  I have swapped throttle bodies, n74s, bypass valves, MAFs, ecus, tunes.  the biggest improvement came when I swapped the MAF out but after about a week it went back to terrible.

Symptoms: very loud sucking noise from intake,

That is almost 100% certainly an evap or vac leak

Again, plug in the maf, log ps_w with a PROPER WOT log, dont just feather into the throttle, its useless.

post up any DTCs and LTFTs.

Also, you're absolutely PUKING fuel due to EGT activity. Not a good sign.

Glad to hear that, to me that sounds like I could get a lot better gas mileage.

Is the high EGT due to the stinking amount of knock occurring?

KR is pretty heavy... -14 at one point

There's a pretty serious mechanical issue going on here.  Either a boost or vacuum leak, or you are running lean from an issue with the fuel system, perhaps a blocked exhaust.  Those are just guesses.

You may want to consider tackling this issue with a stock tune, rather than running a stage 2.  Your engine won't survive many more pulls like this.

Edit:  Nyet, wouldn't lamsbg_w reflect intervention from ATR if he was dumping fuel?  I see the egts are sky high, but I would expect lamsbg_w to reflect this with a richer request.

I have suspected one of my turbos may not be boosting consistently, but I have no smoking or dentist drill noise. It may be worth noting I'm also running piggies.

Also no rear mufflers.   No fault codes and here's fuel trims from Torque app.

Yea, this is bothering me too, which leaves me to believe it's a gigantic boost leak at high pressures, causing both the rich conditions and the crazy egts.

likely not relevant.

Have you done a boost leak test?  Pressurize intake (block off pcv) and listen for air leaks.

I have leak tested the left and right sides independently, also blocked off pcv on the back of the intake and it made no difference on the test drive.  But I have not leak tested by forcing air into the throttle body.

I just leak tested the intake.  No leaks.

Log ps_w

was fueling always this bad?

added ps_w

That looks fine fuel wise. You still have crazy overshoot (PID not good) and some EGT/ATR and KR enrich activity.

the MAIN problem is your timing. Very very bad.

Where did the wideband output go or was there never any?

There never was any :-) I figured since I was following the thread, the checks and balances would have worked in my favor.

Also I seem to have the same problem even with a stock .bin

Maybe you got a batch of very very bad gasoline. I can't think of any other reason.

In the next few days I'll log with a stock .bin

After trying different things here and there on my engine I found some holes on the intake y-pipe from where I had ground the tabs off. I sourced a used one today and swap them out, that seems to have fixed my issue! Eventually I'll post some logs with the same stage 2 tune for scrutiny and education.

Whoa, yeah, that would do it.  Please do follow up with logs of the stage II, cause why not?

Well the problem has returned.  I hate my car again.  It lasted about 5 days then the loud intake noise and sluuuuuuugish boost returned. I'm on a stock 551L Hitachi tune, I'll post logs soon.

I installed a refurbished new air mass meter from advance auto parts and that fixed it =)
