Title: Fan working all time after ecu swap
Post by: yxx499 on October 17, 2016, 04:41:31 AM
Hi mates,

I have an issue with my friend car :  Audi A4 1.8T USA Version 170HP.
Last week replaced OEM ecu (8E0909518AK) with  BAM ECU 06A906018BJ.

Car working good, have now k04,S3 injectors ,s3 maf, etc.

I have 2 issues:

1.SAFE on dashboard. (I have copied login code from old eeprom to new eeprom, and SAFE disappeared)
2.Fans running all time.  - i have checked on some forums but don.t know what to do.
It`s very annoying this thing and don.t get a solution untill now.

Please if someone know or have an ideea with this problem, i will be grateful.

You say you have 2 issues. Was the first (SAFE) resolved?

The second issue is most likely because of the ecu change. Does the fan issue go away with the original ecu installed?

The ecu isnt compatible with your car. The B6 platform requires ecu fan trigger from ECU the 06a Platform has a standalone module for fans that works on its own.

No vwaudyguy, with stock ecu is working good.

So what ECU is needed for this A4 B6?

The original, or one compatible with your engine code.

Original was damaged and don`t want to put 8E back because i don.t have damos for it.

What ecu is compatible with this car? thanks.

The stock ecu part number for that car is well defined on this site, there are many def
files for the 518ak up here even 2 whole threads about tuning that ecu and car...

Ok i understand this,

but that is not a solution for solving fan issue.

Could we make something to respond exactly at question not turning arround ?

I think there is someone who have this issue and knows how to solve it via software.

Yes. Get the correct ECU

Pull the fuse for the fan. Make sure you keep it above 40 mph... Don't be surprised if people slowly stop posting in this thread.

Nah I'll post here but mostly because it will be fun, it was explained to you that
the ecu you have will no workie. You did not care and you came back and
said I dont care if its wrong, I dont care if there is a million reasons I should
do it another way. I want to do this, Fuck logic.
SO what i say is go figure out how to do it and prove us all wrong I'm rooting
for you.

I think this answers it tbf.

I think there is someone who have this issue and knows how to solve it via software.

1) Find an unused I/O on the ecu
2) make a driver circuit, solder it in, patch it into the harness where the fans expect the trigger
3) patch in custom asssembly to sample tmot (or whatever you want the trigger to be) and feed it to more custom code controlling the driver.

Good luck.

Look at that, see they even told you what to do.
NOW get to work. I'd go buy a correct ecu.

As already stated your old ECU used to control the fans. The ECU that you installed relies on an external module. You need an external fan control module, like the one from an 03+ 2.7t BEL A6 or Allroad, or a universal one of your choosing wired in. Or the one that came in the car you got that ecu from. If you take a look at forum posts about people swapping 2.7ts into the B6 chassis you will find several solutions.
