Title: Me7.5 Capacitor burned? Post by: Jim_Coupe on November 11, 2016, 10:00:55 AM Hi, yester day i fired up my 1.8T after some rebuild.. But the egnine runs very poor and i have no codes.
After some time my ECU stopped reponding and i could feel the smell of burned electronics.. It was a capacitor that was broken.. I changed it from another ECU and the ECU responded again.. But now the big question! What does this Capacitor do? I want to know since i believe that i have som serious issue with my harness.. Probably a short ciruit somewhere.. Look at pic below... Any one knows what this ciruit is connected to ? Title: Re: Me7.5 Capacitor burned? Post by: prj on November 11, 2016, 10:24:25 AM The only way to blow a cap is to overvolt it. So if it blew, measure the voltage. If it is in spec, then just replace the cap with a new one of the same voltage and preferrably the same capacitance, and job done.

I think it was the charger that was hooked to my laptop that leaked... lol my whole laptop was electrified haha... I found that the ground in the jack where my chager was connected was bad lol.. I managed to fix the ecu..
