Title: [SOLVED] 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 20, 2017, 02:21:59 PM Hello. I have a 2.7 biturbo engine from an 1999 A6. with a 2001 Allroad ecu with M box bin, and with immo off. And tfsi coils. The engine is mounted in a racecar, and I have used the orginial harness and the cluster from the A6.
My trouble is that the ecu don't send ground to the fuel pump relay when ignition is turned on, it sends ground when I cranking so fuel pump and the sensors getting power at cranking. And i got no spark at the coils. The coils have power and ground(x2) The faults in the memory is no communication with ABS, and with instrument cluster. I have wired opp the correct wires to the cluster from the ecu, EPC lamp comes on when I turn on ecu power. But is allroad communication through CAN? and do I need termination resistor at the computer? Somebody have som ideas? Have check the entire harness from every sensor to the connector at the ecu, check power and ground, everything is okay. any ideas is appreciated. Thanks Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: fknbrkn on March 20, 2017, 03:09:23 PM check coils wiring
+12v from ignition, 2x ground (check for good chassis connection), and signal from ecu at coils and injectors when cranking (ecu sends ground iirc) Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 20, 2017, 03:11:49 PM coils wiring is all new. what kind of signal is the ecu give to the coils?
The injectors is working, the plugs getting wet when I crank. Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 21, 2017, 10:58:01 AM Just tried to upload a stock D box. The only fault in memory now is communication to ABS. But it primed the 2 first times. But o spark.
Ideas? Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: fknbrkn on March 21, 2017, 12:19:31 PM have you test it for a spark? (insert the spark plug into the coil, put it on the engine cover to connect spark plug ground to the engine ground and ask someone to crank)
if no spark, check signal wire to the coil. Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 21, 2017, 12:37:42 PM Yes, I have check that, with a new sparkplug also, and I have measured between the coils and ecu connector. the trigger signal is connected to the coils from pin 94, 95, 102, 103 110 and 111 on the ecu connector.
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 21, 2017, 01:35:43 PM someone seeing some fault? did notice that engine load is 100%, and when cranking the air inlet sensor(MAF?) stays the same?

Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: vwaudiguy on March 22, 2017, 02:22:24 PM When you crank the car, can you see the rpm gauge raise slightly?
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 22, 2017, 02:28:05 PM I don't think so. but i'm not 100% sure.
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: vwaudiguy on March 22, 2017, 02:58:55 PM If you look closely, it will be pretty obvious. You can also log in with a scan tool, and see if it shows rpm while cranking.
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 22, 2017, 03:02:29 PM with scan tool i got around 160-170 rpm when cranking. so its picking up from the crankshaft sensor.
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 26, 2017, 10:18:57 AM nobody?
The epc lamp is lit with igntion on, and is going out after the engine has cranked for 1 sec or something. And if I upload a different bin file to the ECU, the first times I put on the ignition, it primes the fuel pump, but does this only 1 or 2 times. then it won't prime. And it will not start when is priming either, no spark at all. Have check the wiring 10 times now I think. everything lookes like it is in order. but still no start. Thinking maybe throwing that crappy Motronic and buying a standalone! Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: fknbrkn on March 26, 2017, 07:08:24 PM its ok about ignition / fuel pump activity
you didnt answer about signal from ecu to coils. have you check it? if there is pulses appears when cranking and no spark then check coils wiring / replace one coil with a new unit. ive seen once an 1.8t with no spark. signal ok, +12 ok, 2x ground ok. no spark.. the problem was in bad ground connection. you should check wiring under load to find a problem in that case if no signal from ecu then there was an dtcs usually check fuses also, there is one for ecu to coils btw pictures are invisible Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: adam- on March 27, 2017, 03:24:47 AM Did the ECU run in a previous setup?
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 28, 2017, 10:32:01 AM The ecu is not giving signal to the coils.
The ecu is bought from a scrapyard, and it should be working. But I don't know. What is driving the coils from the ecu? Is is some transistor I can measure? Thanks Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: aef on March 29, 2017, 01:59:13 AM Search and read about 30397 here in the board.
Maybe IC is broken. Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 29, 2017, 02:36:13 AM Thanks! ;D
Title: Re: 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on March 29, 2017, 11:06:00 AM So, bought a used ecu. It started right up! So it was something wrong with the chip to the coil drivers. Will try to change the chip and se if it running then.
Thanks! Title: Re: [SOLVED] 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: vwaudiguy on March 29, 2017, 04:53:22 PM Thanks for the update, and congrats.
Title: Re: [SOLVED] 2.7 Biturbo, no start. Post by: maluch on February 19, 2018, 06:02:27 AM I have changed the coil driver chip in the ecu. And now it's working. So if you have the same trouble try to change the chip. Cheap on ebay!
