Title: Fastest way of flashing med9
Post by: littco on May 01, 2017, 02:20:34 AM
Which is the quickest tool for flashing the med9? 12 minutes is a bit slow with the usual suspects..

BDM ribbon cable permanently soldered into ECU or write your own flashing routines and flashtool.

MPPS v13 seems quickest for me. It'll do it in about 9 mins. v16, v18, Kess and FGTech all take 12-15mins.

Failing that, it's BDM. I've got a development ECU that I soldered a cable on and was going to install in my Mk6 R but never bothered getting round to it. 9 mins is sufficiently quick enough that I'll put up with it and if I've got a file to flash, I've usually got something else I can do while its writing.

Ive seen the BDM ribbon cable and it seems a good idea, but not always practical I was thinking OBD though, writing my own flashing routines and flashtool is beyond me.. I'll stick with waiting 10 minutes.

Its just a shame mPPS v13 doesn't skip the blocks which aren't changed like it does with ME7 ecus.

My X17 flashes in 12 minutes as well, although that includes the 30 second "ECU reset" the X17 does on every ECU.

It is possible to flash it just as fast as every other ME9/MED9 ECU. But I already said what the pre-req for that is.
For example the cal area on the GM/SAAB ME9 flashes in about a minute and a half.
The MB ME9 flashes in 40-50 seconds.

The thing with the BDM is that you have to disconnect the connector every time. You can't BDM it with the connector attached.
Still a lot quicker than OBD flashing, especially if you are working with a dual MED9 car.

Not saying this isn't true, but why out of all the available tools hasn't anyone sorted that? I can flash a Focus ST in just under a minute, so it's quite common for ME9s to be generally quick to write in calibration data. I know quite a few dedicated TFSI tuners who would pay good money for a tool that would OBD flash in a minute or two.
