Title: Quick question B6 ecu compatibility
Post by: eurott225 on May 20, 2017, 11:54:57 AM
So I am in the middle of swapping a manual transmission on my 1.8t cvt fwd audi a4 B6 and I will need to flash the ecu

My question is I do have a tuned 06A ecu from a mk4 1.8t, would I be able to successfully flash that tune file to the 8E0 audi ecu?

I am about to try it but wanted to ask before just in case there might be something that makes it not doable for some reason. As far as I can see they are both me7's ecu and all the ecu maps should be the same and it should work. Let me know what you think

Thanks

Even among B6 ECUs there is incompatibility, so I'm not so sure.

2002 my (518F, G in north america, I think 518, -A and -B europe) are 20MHz MCU speed. later ones (2003+) are 24MHz.

I've heard that even not changing code, those ECUs are incompatible in the same car (ie. 02 ECU with 02 FW won't work in an 03 body) but I've never seen solid evidence one way or the other. Far as I can tell nearly all the hardware on the car side is the same so no idea why it wouldn't work...

You will have to be a guinea pig and try. I don't think they are compatible just based on the bootrom. IIRC the 06A ones are 5.12 and the 8E0 are 6.12. I've seen it stated many times here if the bootrom doesn't match, then they aren't likely cross flashable.

You can always look at your 06A file vs a stock file, note the changes and apply them to the 8E0 file. Or just use the Stage 1 community tune for the 8E0 as a starting point. If you work your way through the 40+ pages of that thread, you should be able to make your own tune that would rival most OTS tunes...

02 is not cross flashible with the 03-05. 03-05 are cross flasible.
