Just when everyone starts getting a handle on ME7 you go and hit the reset button for yourself!  Congrats on the new car, when does the spare ECU come?   ;)

From what I can tell, its going to be a tough nut to crack, and I am unsure I can do it w/o factory help (and/or in an unencumbered fashion).

So.

No promises.

Very nice!

Is there any particular reason Audi made the switch?

Just heard magpro2 x17 module will have test release of protocol for simos 8.4 in the next month, just a fyi nyet.  i dont know what tool will do this as of yet.

I have no information on this ecu type from any of my contacts, must get a bin to research it.

seems like FRC SPI does this as well.  SPI is fairly cheap for hardware but plugins/modules will get you good.  Maybe ask them about it.  I think you can get the interface for around 700usd but plugin for simos i have NO idea.

It's old Simos 6.2 - no problem to read/write this ECU type.
Continental/Simos 8.4 on 3.0TFSI engine is totally different.
AFAIK APR can chiping this one at the moment.

Another tuning variants are "additional tuning-boxes".

Revo are offering a tune for the B8 S4 too:

If it's as good my Revo Stage 2, it won't be bettered by anybody's home brew tune, not even Nye.  ;)

Why would nye ever bite the bullet and buy an off the shelf tune! :P  gotta at least come to the realization that its nowhere near economical to tune it before heading off to apr or revo 8)

Mappacks (a2l/ols) for Simos 8 are available. I bet they are pricey, though.

R/W/CHKs is the problem. I don't know of any tool that can do them at the moment.

If its ME7, I am confident that I could more or less match any tuner's stage 1-3 tune (k03/k04/rs6), especially if its for 91oct. No magic there. The limit is timing, period.

I expect the same for Simos 8, but for other very difficult technical issues having nothing to do with EFI tuning itself :)

is the supercharged V6 the only Audi unit using Simos?

AFAIK the new V8TT w/ cylinder deactivation uses Motronic.

3.2 v6 uses a version of simos, as well as some of the diesel motors, but not 8.4.

I thought I would get a bite there. ;D Quite right too because you guys are highly experienced, but from my point of view £450 is less than three new tyres and probably 10% of what I have spent on modifying the car so it was a no-brainer. Plus, at the time I decided to get a commercial tune my knowledge of tuning was squat.
