Title: Complete aftercat o2 sensor removal!
Post by: masterj on December 22, 2011, 10:30:48 AM
Hello everyone!
First of all - yes I've read s4wiki ;) Now I've managed to disable SAI and CAT completely. But aftercat O2 gives me headaches... No matter what I try I always get "Failed or incomplete" under Oxygen Sensor(s) in READLINESS section. Oxygen Sensor Heating is "Passed" but not Oxygen Sensor(s)...

Maps that I've edited:
CWDLSAHK @ 18613 SET TO 0
CDSLS @ 181B0 SET TO 0
CDLSHV @ 181AB SET TO 0
CDLSH @ 181AA SET TO 0
CDLASH @ 181A4 SET TO 0
CDKAT @ 181A2 SET TO 0
CDHSHE @ 1819F SET TO 0
CDHSH @ 1819E SET TO 0
CLRHK @ 121AC SET TO 39 (previous was 38)

CLAHSH @ 10882 SET TO 0
CLAHSHE @ 10884 SET TO 0
CLALSH @ 108A3 SET TO 0
CLASLPE @ 108B9 SET TO 0
CLASLVE @ 108BA SET TO 0

Ofcourse there are no damos files for this ecu, so I have to find maps manually and that is hard especially for constant maps... So maybe someone with assembler skills could at least confirm that these addresses are OK? :)

BTW: My car is in soft limp mode (0.5bar) with secondary o2 sensor completely disconnected so I think that it is the problem here...

you are right.  this doesn't fix the check.  however, if you run the set OBD codes, it will set them.  then your oxygen sensor will read.  go through the readiness and do the 35 steps and then recheck.  i didnt believe it at first, but it works.

Wait what? :D What 35 steps are you speaking of? :)

go into engine on vagcom and "set readiness"

go into engine on vagcom and "set readiness"

I've tried going through groups in basic settings and found that primary o2 sensor test never finishes (unless I lower rpm than specified 2000). Secondary o2 sensor test stops without any message (like it wasn't even started)

Are we referring to different menus?  I'll try to get the "exact path" when I flash my car tonight for you to do the proper thing.

If you're reffering to "Output Tests" then I did them. None of them tested o2 sensors, only n75, sai pump etc.

No, he's talking about the readiness sequence.

Oh... My bad :) Never even thought that there is guided readliness... Hope my VCDS LITE has this option. Going to test it ;)

Just checked READLINESS section of the VCDS, there is no button to start guided readliness... Any other instructions to activate readliness testing? I mean maybe someone could post instructions from vcds here... I could test them through basic settings...

This is for the S4, not sure about your car:

Nice! :) Thank you, gonna try these instructions..

Sorry if I missed on a previous thread the reason why you are doing this. Is your post-cat oxygen sensor faulty or broken? If so, is this not a lot of trouble to code it out rather than just replacing it, even with a used part from a breaker's yard?

No. Coding it out is far, far easier and cheaper.

I have gutted cat and by the way I want to code it out not just use the fouler :)

P.s>I've attached my current version, but haven't tested it yet... Looks like I have mixed up few bits in 18xxx zone in my earlier version... Dunno if it is correct now, but if you have some free time please open my file and tell me ;)

Did I read somewhere that you've got a B8 S4 and you're telling me you can't afford to replace a post-cat oxygen sensor?  ;D

Happy Christmas.

I've long replaced them with wideband sensors for logging :)

Could anyone with dissasembly skills tell me if bits CLRHK is @ 121AC, CWDLSAHK @ 18613? Also where is CLRHKA?? Can't find it :( Thanks

Are the ones in the S4wiki wrong?

No, I don't think he/we have the correct addresses for them yet. >:(

So, yes, the ones in the S4 wiki are wrong? I'm very confused :(

This is for VW 1.8t Me7.5, not 7.1....unless I'm missing something?

Only bits in 18xxx area are similar in every ME 7th class ECU, every other map can be scattered everywhere and to find it (especially 1bit maps) are freakin' hard... :)

So, in the end I found two possible maps, but am not sure if they're right and only people with dissasembler skills can help me here...

Ah. Ok. No its my bad. I had no idea he wasn't talking about ME7.1

I kinda wish we were ::) Everything is so much more open with ME7.1!!! We'll get there, it's just with these bins, everything is switched from one to another. Not to bad for most maps, but it makes the constants/bits a pita ;D

The b5 1.8t ecu's are a little different too, not as much info and damos out there, you really just gotta try and test things like i did :(

Do you find that most of the early b5 line up when it comes to these bits? Example; I know the bin he is working on is almost identical to mine ,(2001 a4 b5 1.8) just different offsets. In reality, if he gets this right, then so do I.

Rarak, any hints/clues/help you could give on the prokonal bits would be greatly appreciated. I don't usually have my hand out, but these function drive me nuts! Thanks. - if not, no worries, trial and error...

Finally managed to get readliness set... Had to zero out following bits:
CDHSH
CDHSHE
CDHSV
CDHSVE
CDKAT
CDLASH
CDLAPT
CDLATV
CDLSA
CDLSH
CDLSHV
CDLSV
CDSLS
CWKONLS
CWSLS
CWDLSAHK

Problem is: I'm still getting soft limp (as if my secondary o2 sensor errors were still there).
P1114 and P1118 - those two are making my ECU go into soft limp even when there's no DTCs stored (I have zeroed out CLAHSH and CLAHSHE!). Now I'm completely lost... Please check my bin file. Thanks

Did you research all of those before you changed them? Some of them are not even O2 sensor related.

Have you considered that your "soft limp mode" might not be related to your rear O2's.

then there should be some dtcs stored or something... ECU can't just go into soft limp without any additional information. I zeroed out only P1114 and P1118 error classes. That means, that every other error should be shown... By the way, when I disconnected my secondary o2 sensor (before editing bin) car went to soft limp too. So I'm thinking that disabling errors in 106** zone is only a way not to show them on vcds. They still affect performance as if they were there. And then another question rises: Where in bin file it is defined which DTC is responsible for soft limp (0.5 bar) and hard limp (0.3 bar)?
