Anyone know how to keep ppl from just being able to hook up and steal your tune?

Odds are if you don't know how to do it, nothing you are doing is worth stealing.

Very often the seed/key algo is modified, or the read command is blocked.

Not very helpful or coherent

Which can be bypassed by bootmode (depending on the ECU, which the OP did not specify)

Correct, but afaik there is no way to disable reading in bootmode? Or BDM or JTAG or whatever interface a specific cpu uses?

Without hardware invasive mod of some sort probably not possible. I can imagine though that the very new / modern platforms to come would have the hardware level lock for any reading.
