Title: Help converting A-box to M-box ECU B5 S4
Post by: LincolnJones on February 15, 2012, 10:03:43 AM
Hey guys, I drive a 2001.5 S4 which comes with the M-box ECU and I've read that the M-box and A-Box are interchangeable so I ended up buying an A-box with stgIII eurodyne software along with their maestro cable. I have been all throughout Nefmoto and VW vortex trying to find the exact procedure I need to do in order to make this ECU work in my car. This is what I have found out, - I need to recode the engine and recode the cluster with vagcom to support the correct MAF and so on....My questions are

1. When I put the A-box into my car and start the recoding, am I recoding my "car" to accept the A-box or recoding the ecu to accept my car?(i.e recoding the ecu to a M-box or Recoding my car to A box style)
2. M-box runs on the Hitachi MAF, If im recoding my car to accept and A box is there ANY way of keep my hitachi MAF instead of switching to Bosch (A box)
3. "You need to copy the relevant tables for the Hitachi MAF from your current M-box tune to the A-box tune via TunerPro" someone's response on VW vortex. This doesn't seem right for some reason. Can someone elaborate?

Once again its a 2001.5 S4 (stock with M-Box, Hitachi MAF) I am trying to put an A box (Bosch MAF) with StgIII Eurodyne software into it. These are suppose to be interchangeable, any insight or help is GREATLY APPRECIATED

1. You recode the ECU to the car. How could you recode the car? You could change the hardware to match the software, but that doesn't make much sense.

2. Question 3 is the answer to question 2.

3. For Stage 1 and 2 tunes you would just copy KFKHFM, MLHFM, and MLOFS from stock M box to the A box. For stage 3 you will need to do this and then calibrate them to your larger MAF housing. See the Tuning section of the S4wiki and example stage 3 tunes on this forum for more info.
