Title: Memory Type explanations
Post by: VwGuy1010 on April 09, 2020, 06:09:30 AM
Hi,

I have been lurking for the past two weeks trying to understand the basic concepts of flashing my 337. I have a decent grip on most of the basics, but I want to make sure I fully understand before attempting my first flash. The correct format for my ECU is F800, two weeks ago when I first started messing around I  read my ECU in F800BB, which seems to be 1.8t's above 2002. My question is, What is a memory type and how does it affect the addresses of maps? I read the stock .bin twice(F800,F800BB). When I look at the maps they seemed to all be in the same location. Thanks in advance. JB

its a sector size thing, not an address thing.

It effects what has to be erased when writing. It does not affect reading.

Ah, So they will read the same but not write the same. What does the BB mean on the end? Boot seq?

"Boot" sectors on that flash are smaller than normal sectors. BB says where they are located, at the top of the address space or the bottom.

Noted, are there any methods to reprogram EEprom via OBD2 other that VCDS?

Also, What should I focus on to improve my ability to read, and understand Hex files.

Thanks. JB
