Title: R32 Mk5 ECU compatability KR vs KG Post by: R32Dude on September 07, 2020, 04:34:58 AM Hi all, Im a real noob and have trolled for weeks but can't find a definitive answer so I hope you can help.
I've gathered from reading many posts that the ECU in my Mk5 Golf R32 is easier to brick than many others so I decided to look for a spare that I can play with. The problem is that the models like mine ,022906032KG (according to VCDS) are much more expensive than the 022906032KR, also used in the same car. Can someone please let me know if there's any difference between these two that could be problem? The st10f27x needs a proper backup with any boot mode tool so you can get the pair of eeprom - flash and st10f mpc. C167 me7.1.1 is similar to me7.5 ecu. You can not brick the ecus if you use correct tools for flashing or if you are using bootmode tools that can give you full access to that ecu. Good luck. I've read that the st10 doesnt like OBD much, but If I wanted to do small mods and flash through OBD for quick testing on the road, is it actually possible with the c167 or is it risky even with a genuine kess v2?

Both KR and KG ecus are based on st10F27x with all its features and behavior when writing over OBD. So there is no guarantee that something will go wrong while recording in the field. If you want to make spare ecu for testing you need boot mode tool to make a clone. Title: Re: R32 Mk5 ECU compatability KR vs KG Post by: R32Dude on September 08, 2020, 07:17:35 AM Thanks. So it looks like each time I want to make a change I will need to take out the ecu and bootmode it on the bench. Just a final question, why does my VCDS tell me that I have a 022906032KG control module part number but a few lines down in the scan output 022906032GP is mentioned? Its got me wondering if any 022906032XX ecus that have 022906032GP Benzin ME 7.1.1 stamped in small writing on the cover label might work in my car?
Title: Re: R32 Mk5 ECU compatability KR vs KG Post by: IamwhoIam on September 09, 2020, 01:11:40 AM 022906032GP is the bare hardware number, and therefore any ST10 mk5 file will work in any ECU with this HW number.
