Title: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: vwnut8392 on April 21, 2012, 01:30:24 AM helped a friend out with getting a replacment ECU for his jetta after the original one failed. my problem is the ECU will not let me recode it from auto to manual with VCDS. does anyone know if its possible to edit the binary to make it a manual ECU? i cannot find an original manual file for it anywhere. this is all in an early 2002 jetta VR6. The ECU part number 021906018S. here is the factory file im working with.

ECS Tuning sent him an ECU for an auto with tiptronic and he ordered a manual and they refused to take it back or switch him cuz they swore it was the right one.

From the VCDS lable file, for that PN ECU, 021-906-018-AFP " ; Coding ; ;--------------------------------------------------- ; ; C00,Engine (J220) Coding C01,000?x: CAN-Databus C02,+1 = Brake Electronics (ABS) C03,+2 = Airbag C04,000x?: Transmission C05,1 = Manual Transmission C06,3 = Automatic Transmission ; So the ECU coding is "00031" for MT, or "00033" for AT. Same ECU PN for both transmissions. It definitely doesn't switch to a different set of calibrations. At best, it would just stop attempting to communicate with the TCU, but it still would not be optimal. Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: ported2flow on October 19, 2012, 04:16:49 PM why is it not possible? for example i have an golf 4 r32 engine with manual transmission and wand to swap for dsg ...
if ill swap the whole parts and recode the ecu from "2" to "3" my dsg wont be running properly? Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: ironital on October 19, 2012, 04:54:17 PM this means when connecting automatic ecu to manula car we shouldn't connect the tcu and the car will good
Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: ported2flow on July 21, 2014, 12:18:24 PM Trying to get this alive...
I have an golf 4 r32 manual file which I want to convert to automatic / dsg So I looked up at a dsg 3.2 file and almost all maps for "cvt" are available in the manual file I tried to recode the car configuration but if I reflash the file it doesn't throw an error code for missig automatic transmission... So is there a switch to enable cvt/dsg in the manual file when all other maps are available!?? Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: Allabout on July 24, 2014, 04:46:25 PM Unless you have the Login PIN (SKC) from memory you are not able to adjust the auto to manual files.
I have 2 ECU's at home for a 24v VR6. One a USA and the other Euro version, both work. Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: ported2flow on July 25, 2014, 06:37:14 PM which one do you mean??? the development login code???

No the SKC (security Key Code), is what I used to login with and make relevant adjustments. Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: Allabout on July 29, 2014, 08:59:48 PM where is it usually stored? In the cluster but also in the ECU. I don't have my mk4 wiring running anymore. So my ECU's are already recoded. Actually, that reminds me. I have to find my copy of my SKC's for my ECU's. whoops You do need to use a tool such as Vag Tacho or Vag K commander to pull the SKC from the cars ECU/cluster These 2 links may make it a little more clear hopefully http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_III_Immobilizer_Swapping_(Instrument_Cluster) http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_III_ECU_Swapping Title: Re: ME 7.1 12V VR6 conversion from automatic to manual help Post by: Allabout on July 29, 2014, 09:25:09 PM where is it usually stored? Also just found this http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=5068.15 Post #19, states where in the BIN file and how to decode your SKC.
