Title: allroad 2.7t 551r
Post by: dguy_mep on November 16, 2020, 08:30:48 PM
After getting somewhat more comfortable with the handful of tools we all have at our disposal and going over the first bits of various other community projects (still working through everything for pointers, useful .XDF categories that keep everyone on the same page, translations, syntax, not to mention technical German to english translations to keep me sane, etc) I've gotten a few logs.  I'll stress that I'm not very familiar with the platform 2.7t, and certainly not familiar with Motronic's torque demand tuning strategies so bear with me as I may ask some stupid questions/assume things incorrectly.

That said, attached are a couple very short logs.  The car should/is completely stock and at this point I'm assuming is in good running condition save for  an intermittent fault with the bank 1 EGT (may cause issues, still learning the platform).  Boost seems pretty low to me at 8ish psi peak tapering down to 6 though the offset between desired and actual as well as duty cycle looks to be in line with what the ECU is asking for.  Is this normal?  Also any insight on what/how else you all think I should log would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, using the 551r in this thread/from Nyet's repository(suppository?) as well as the .cfg.

not sure why it didn't log req load but that looks stock.

Thanks for weighing in, nyet, wanted to make sure.  I'm curious about the amount of average knock retard, I know its close to redline but it seems interesting that it divebombs so much.

I'll look into whether or not I made a mistake RE logging req load.

sorry i misread. I didn't meant it looked fine. I meant it looked like a stock file :P I assumed you were talking about running a community stage 1 file. I didn't realize the original thread was totally useless as literally nobody ended up writing a stage 1 file at all. Sad. I also ignored where you actually said the file was stock.

In any case, this is not the thread for discussing problems with your stock ECU.

Moving accordingly.

Having looked at your log, that is quite a bit of knock correction, which is likely why your boost is so low at redline. What fuel are you using?

Well my hope was to help kickstart the thread since nobody had really done anything and since there weren't (unless i'm blind) any reasonable logs for a bone stock setup in good working order it might be a good place to start.  No biggie to move it somewhere else if you prefer, can always revisit it once I/we develop a reasonable 'stage 1' (i hate staged names) setup.

I'm in California so its weaksauce 91 octane,  I'd expect some retard over 93 but even still it seems excessive from my research.  Still developing a 'tunig suite' (XDF I'm happy with, spare ECU, bench setup for Bosch etc etc) before I actually start doing any changes so any insight at this stage would be appreciated.  As I mentioned before I'm quite familiar with remapping the vehicles I build using various manufacturer of standalones however Bosch/Motronic nomenclature is still very foreign to me.

Yea, we can always move it back or start adding to the thread when you have a working stg1 file and some logs that just need fine tuning

wrt to 91: yes, even on 91 those knock numbers are not great.

Maybe something simple as a bad batch of gas though; i'd leave it alone and wait until you get a fresh batch of 91 (preferably from a known good brand or non-sketch gas station, i guess).

I'd not go chasing knock further until you can rule out fuel problems, unless you're seeing odd long term trims.

So while I wait for a backup ECU and since I didn't need any gas since I've taken those logs I figured I'd take another glance/look for telltales/keep familiarizing with 2.7t control strategies.

It looks like there's a direct correlation between EGT1 producing loggable numbers and when that knock retard kicks in.  Im also a little disappointed to find that the EGTs on a stock 2.7t were so narrow range.

I'm hoping to convert to RS6 EGTs (with requisite tweaks to my bin) as I tend to use EGTs whenever I hack on cars though this doesn't seem like a super common swap.  Am I missing something?  Thanks.

I really should go back and look at your logs and peek at EGT readings but long story short:

If the KR is from EGT, it likely means one or both sensors is failing. Replace, or code out.

RS6 EGT swap is overkill unless you're running some sort of exotic setup where EGTs are a big concern.

the stock wideband EGT model (not based on sensors) is pretty accurate unless you have a lot of hardware changes.

Thanks, nyet.  Currently going through 'new owner syndrome' of a used car dealing with all the things that were close to failure and patched back together/regular wear and tear on a 100k mile chassis (in great shape, though I think that the PO was very dilligent about maintenance early in the cars life, not so much for the past 15k)

I didn't realize the EGT model didn't use the sensors at all, this would explain not throwing a more insistent code on the intermittent failure/short to ground on bank 1 that I've got.

Time to look into coding them out on a 551R.  I'm not particularly looking for spoon feeding but do you have any suggestions on where/what threads I should specifically follow and do background research on?  I'm fairly confident in the XDF that I've been piecing together for my plans however its a little daunting when all of the 551R information is so spread out.  Thanks.

The EGT section in the tuning wiki is 100% transferable to R.

I assume your ar is 4z7 and not 4b0 or I would suggest a M box conversion :(
