Title: RS4 MAF Intake tract on big turbo 1.8T
Post by: Blazius on April 27, 2021, 09:09:38 PM
I've been wondering about this and searches show very little info regarding the 1.8T's and rs4 maf compressor intake design. Given the nonstandart RS4 OD is 86mm which is ~3.38 inch how would you adapt/design the intake tract taking into all measures - MAF distance from turbo and filter, solid piping on small distance at the very least for DV barb etc if not buying prebought if they even exist..

Lets take the G25 550/660 for example, they feature a 3 inch compressor inlet , fairly standart. Ofcourse you would need a 76mm to 86mm silicon adapter, and quick google search only shows one company in the USA, rest ebay / china. Then 86-86mm coupling for solid piping for reasons mentioned above, then filters, they come in 3,3.5,4" etc, so you would need a reducer to a certain size again, 3.15" couplers might or might not stretch to 86. Piping OD should be available in 86mm+ so no issue there.
How would you do design it?

If anyone is running a setup like this please tell, pictures welcome too.

Surerly somebody ran an rs4 maf on a 3 inch compressor housing on 1.8 . 90mm(3.54inch) to 76mm couplings are more widely available so I guess "enlarging" the housing is one way to do it too.
Would like to see some setups tho..

Also due to space reasons one might consider cobra head too but again the "weird" size needs to get adapted to it somehow, cant do straight shot, from 3 inch or 3.5.

0280218067 OD is 90+  ???

Are you sure? Every resource I found lists the maf as 83mm ID, 86mm OD. Here is a picture from GT-innovation even:

If its 90mm then that's a relief, 90mm-90mm , 90mm-76mm are easily found. Dont know where they get 86mm then.

To confirm just got an RS4 MAF housing, the OD on filter side is 91mm and motor side is 90mm which is 3.5 inch.

In my personal experience a 4 cylinder in the lower rpm range doesnt have resolution from the housing being so large. makes idle tuning and part throttle shittly. Im sure with more effort I could have made it work but i just went sd

Proper SD works great.

Which is what I might have to do since then I found out that with the new setup it might be physically impossible fit a maf intake , so either SD or blowthrough. What put me off with SD  before is that the car is still a daily driver even tho got backup car , so I was trying to avoid massive asm experiments.

I have no problem with properly implemented SD

I shared a fulling working solution with you, you're a smart fella im sure you can make it work ;) ;)

How?

What how? There is a thread in the Reverse engineering section. Study it.

There is no way that is sufficient.

What do you mean, noice's last post has it pretty much working from a quick look thru hex and his post, ps_w will be written from the map sampling, albeit from the rear o2 input ?instead of maf wiring and adc, unless I am missing something. Or do you mean understanding the code ? If so pull up the ism and manual get reading, it is not impossible.

No I mean it is, but not for a novice who has never done any programming, let alone ASM

Try it then ;D

Won't work right.

Yes I have noticed, he posted the bin for people to 'test' yet its missing half the stuff such as the maps and whatever else, or do you mean something else?
