Title: 2.8 VR6 24v stock engine power "gains"
Post by: Sandstorm3k on June 12, 2022, 11:23:59 AM
Good day folks.

I'm hearing more and more "tuners" claiming well over 230hp on stock 24V VR6's. To me that sounds like insanity on regular fuel. I could imagine on racing fuel / RON102 there is some gains to be had. But on a stock engine on pump fuel?

I was under the impression any performance tuning is just a waste of time on these. I've seen a "tuned" map before where they just messed with KFPED.

I suppose this would also apply for these 4.2 V8 motors (audi s5 and such) is there any performance to be gained really?

Its BS.  You also need cams and a free flowing exhaust. Even then 230 is a lot.
The specs for 'racing' cams for all vr6's aren't that wild either, the ports are probably restrictive. Not worth it for the $$$.

I would've thought so. Seems ridiculous yet people believe it everywhere.

There was a user on here, Tyler who went by the name Mister T. He got some gains low to mid range playing with cams on his 4.2. He's dead , but you can check his posts.

He didn't get jack shit. Not a single car was ever dynoed, only wild claims made without any backing.

Same as there was once a famous german tuner who used to tell everyone he would increase the engine's VE by playing with specific cam settings on R32, blah blah, bottom line is the guy was adding 10% in KFKHFM and therefore he was thinking the car sucks more air in, where on a dyno it made absolutely zilch extra power. LOL
