Title: AGU head on AUQ block
Post by: giowz0rd on June 25, 2022, 10:06:16 AM
Hello ppl,

I am just giving a chance to restore an 8L here in Brazil - the AUQ head height is lower than the minimum, so, I will have to change it.

There is a lot of AGU heads available for buying, but not even one AUQ. I just found that AGU would fit, but how about the VVT and cams?

If someone already did that, please tell me :)

Thanks!

Fits fine.  Swap VVT unit if you want to keep it.

Some tuning might be required as the AGU is a big port head. Physically it will work though.

Thanks everyone!

Updating because I didn’t find it in anywhere:

One day after the post, I just found an AWT head (from Passat, with VVT).

The main problem: Passat engine is longitudinal, A3 engine is transverse - so I will have to adapt the intake and exhaust manifolds.

In your opinion - does it worth the pain to adapt these or finding an AGU/AUQ is better?

Thx!

Find transverse.

Both manifolds are bolt on.  ::)

My girlfriends beetle which is originally AVC transverse engine has a BFB (longitudinal) head too.

Manifolds are bolt on indeed, but do I remember wrong that some tinkering was needed elsewhere?
I remember that it was not completely plug and play for some reason, but it was a very long time ago.

Different mounting size for the fuel injectors - spacers or machining required

Hi. I'm from Brazil too.
I have an BAM head, taken out from an 2002 S3. Small port, with VVT.
PM if you have interest.

There's timing belt/pulley offset difference between 058 (longitudinal only) and 06A (mounted both ways) engines. Other than that, SAI and VVT I dont recall anything else that would not let to swap the heads p&p.
About year ago I swapped bare BFB engine from B7 A4 into 8L A3 by only cleaning some previously unused threads in the block and bolting over everything  ::)
