Title: VVT error code
Post by: Barks on June 11, 2012, 12:09:19 PM
Hello,

I have a VVT 8N0906018BH ecu fitted to a none VVT engine and as expected after resistoring the VVT to get rid of the open circuit error another error is apparrent...16396 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded)

From a previous post this can be disabled by setting sy_nws to 0 but this would require decompiling etc and it just a just little involved (even if you know what you are doing :) )

Does anyone know how this DTC fault triggered? Surely the ecu must compare a actual cam position against a table for the 2 cam positions? If so can these tables be made identical to stop the error code??

Or is there another way to do it?? Any help greatly received and have attached my current bin.

Thanks

Barks

Try setting CDNWS to 0x00

Atleast unset CDNWS.1

It was set to 3, I have now set it to 0, surely it can't be that easy?

CDNWS is a diagnostic 1x1 map Barks mate...
Codeword DNWS off (EURO-coding), CD .. = 0 -> no diagnosis

Doesn't turn off VVT as such...

perhaps...
if the kfnwse and similar knockwellen maps which are set to do some -4 things, were set to stay at 18, then the vvt would not be told to do anything and as such not fault out either for not having done so.

Hello, I set CDNWS to 0 and have had no error code, so all good... :)

I suppose it is still using both timing maps KFZW1&2 and KFZWOP1&2 just no error codes (so both maps should be set to identitical values)

If KFNWSE was set to all 18, which map set would it default to 1 or 2??

Cheers

Hello,

I haven't had any problems, juist resistored the VVT and set CDNWS to 0.

Seem to go alright, I need to try altering KFNWSE to all 18's

Does anyoine know what maps it would use by default.

Thanks

Please see attached me7logger / ecuplot log (Excellent tools)

First V13.3 is Pre altering KFNWSE to all 18's

Second is V14 is after altering KFNNWSE to all 18's

other than measurement scatter, what are you showing dave?
both timing maps set the same on this one? is that what you are showing?
