Title: Battery voltage at WOT?
Post by: smurfbus on July 15, 2012, 12:53:37 PM
Has anyone logged battery voltage at WOT? Mine seems to bounce between 13.6V and 12.6V? I 've been having some sort of power loss when WOT and 3rd gear 5000rpms and 4th gear 4000 rpms. From the logs I can see that at those rpms my Battery voltage drops 1V!

Just curious if thats normal.

Think its not and strange.
Mine is constant at 14V and with lights on at 13.4V.
Dont know if air vent to cool fluids are that power/amp eaters.

Definitely not normal.... alternator issues?

I changed the voltage regulator/brushes of the alternator 3 yrs ago but the rest of the alternator might be going bad?

3rd gear graph:

So voltage should stay at 14V on full WOT too. I haven't seen any logs where voltage was graphed.

I'll try to get a log time permitting

BTW ecuxplot has an "export" function.  You dont have to take a screen shot ;)

I just checked and the voltage gauge shows solid 14 when the power brakes up at 3500-4000rpms.

Check the positive and negative terminal on battery, make sure they are 100% tight and that neither of the leads is getting hot.

Will do but one week later as the car is going for paint boot for a week now. I know the terminals are not loose (but possibly not tight enough)  as I regularly put my charger on the posts for new code flash but dunno if the battery or terminals are getting hot.

Well, it's an easy thing to check. Last time I had this problem was the positive terminal was connected badly and getting very hot. Probably moved around on WOT :)
