Title: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: vcom on July 27, 2012, 01:41:04 AM Hi Guys
does anyone of you have some experience using Nefmoto with Porsche 996 Turbo Series? They have Bosch ME7.8 Kind regards from switzerland :D Ray Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: NOTORIOUS VR on July 31, 2012, 09:50:12 AM I'm trying to play with one currently and having a crappy time with it... No matter what file I seem to pull from the ECU it's garbage... no maps to be found.
Using MPPS V12, it seems like the 35kb file (data only) contains nothing, and when I attempt a boot mode read I only get 266kb file and again just garbage. I know there are a few people on this forum, who swear that MPPS reads in boot mode, but I never ever got it to work. All it ever did was say mode not supported and asked me to reset the ECU. Then continued to read in normal mode on bench. Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: lulu2003 on August 21, 2012, 07:40:11 AM isn't ME7 bench=boot? ???
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: prj on August 21, 2012, 07:56:37 AM isn't ME7 bench=boot? ??? No!Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: NOTORIOUS VR on August 21, 2012, 01:34:42 PM just to update... the issue was because the car was already tuned.. so MPPS encrypts the output due to a NOREAD in the file.
I solved it by using Galletto in boot mode and got the 1MB flash out successfully. And actually I finished my first revision for his car from a stock 996T BIN... gonna see how that goes on later today, pretty pumped. I just hope the ORI I found on here was good (never know with internet files). There are many reasons, one of them is that the dash interfers in some applications. That's not my point. My point is MPPS can't do boot mode, period. It can flash on bench by bypassing immo, but it does not do boot mode. Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: lulu2003 on August 22, 2012, 03:55:01 AM of course MPPS does boot mode, but I think it depends alot on which SW+HW version, original or clone, ECU, harness etc.
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: prj on August 22, 2012, 03:57:24 AM of course MPPS does boot mode, but I think it depends alot on which SW+HW version, original or clone, ECU, harness etc. I want to see that for myself. Tried with 3 or 4 different ECU's so far. It can flash them on bench over KWP2000 by bypassing immo, but not a single one works in boot mode. If you set the ECU in boot mode it just tells you "mode not supported" and restart ECU. If you restart it with boot mode, it says that again. If you restart without boot mode only then it flashes. Any time you ground Pin 24 it does absolutely nothing. Just because you say it does, does not make it true ;) Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: NOTORIOUS VR on August 22, 2012, 05:33:31 AM I've used MPPS in bootmode before... works just fine :)
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: prj on August 22, 2012, 06:05:35 AM I've used MPPS in bootmode before... works just fine :) So you plug in the ecu, hold pin 24 to ground, and after that hit write?Because that's what I've done, and I've never got it to work on any ME7.1 or ME7.5 ECU. Galletto has never let me down in those cases :) Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: NOTORIOUS VR on August 22, 2012, 06:08:53 AM Did you choose the boot mode version of the ECU in the list?
Also there is a Generic menu option for Bosch ECU's and that is 100% boot mode if you need it. Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: prj on August 22, 2012, 06:11:37 AM Did you choose the boot mode version of the ECU in the list? Don't have that in the list.Quote Also there is a Generic menu option for Bosch ECU's and that is 100% boot mode if you need it. That I have but did not try.Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: NOTORIOUS VR on August 22, 2012, 06:14:57 AM I suppose not every ECU can be done in boot mode via the Mfg. category. Try the Generic drop down in that case.
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: Rick on September 08, 2012, 01:34:57 AM MPPS does work in boot mode, but you need to choose it in the Generic selection :)

How did you manage with checksums on this ECU? Does the ME7Logger works with this ECU? Regards! Title: Re: Post by: dream3R on January 16, 2014, 05:24:42 AM Mpps boot mode works fine for Volvo ME7 btw.
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: engine_nerd on May 04, 2014, 11:35:15 AM Did that ORI work out? I've got a chipped 996tt that is already tuned. I want to change a few things hardware wise so I will need to start over... These days even finding a stock flash 996tt to pull the file off is not so easy haha.
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: dream3R on May 20, 2014, 12:00:26 AM I've used minimon to manually pull a file from a tuned ecu before, worked perfect.
Title: Re: Experiences with 996 Porsche Turbo - ME7.8 Post by: ported2flow on June 22, 2014, 04:30:50 AM Heheh dream3R I can confirm that!!!
Takes a little bit read out time but works like a charm :) |
