Title: What did 034Motorsport, Apr, Unitronic and so on do differently than usual tuner
Post by: hilmito on February 06, 2025, 03:34:39 AM
Hi Members,
I've been meaning to make a topic like this for a long time.
What do tuning companies (034Motorsport, Apr, Unitroni) do differently?
Do we have any observations? Has anyone had chance to look at what they do differently?

These three do not belong together.

APR and Unitronic have own logging and flashing tools. 034 afaik does not, or did not when Uni and APR already did.
034 has historically been a parts company.

Also different from WHAT?
You mean why they sell? Because of being early to the game and superior marketing and distribution.

The calibrations are not in any way "special".

There no magic in tuning strategy for exact ecu family. They may have more funding to deep testing to polish tune or make own asw patching/modules + hardware - but that different story.

I mean, has anyone had the opportunity to compare a file from these tuning companies, whether they do anything special/different from the regular tuner.
Because they always brag a lot. If you read their description on the website you will say that they do magic, something different the regular tuner dont do.

Yes, i agree with you exectly.
But you won't be able to find anyone publicly comparing their file anywhere.

There no "secrets" in tunes where you have significant differences. Yes will be minor but usually it is defined by test case attached - like fuel, altitude etc for what baseline is made. Rest - as mentioned - whole lap dance bust your wallet...

There is absolutely nothing special about the tunes.
End of story, end of discussion.

Yes, it's not braindead % button mashing.

I got into DIY tuning because i noticed all of their stuff was junk, bro.

Agreed with all of the above: calibration is not difficult. There is no magic sauce other than to be detail oriented, which you can't do if you're just slinging tunes and don't GAF.

They demonstrably do not do this. Their time/money is better spent

* covering as many different flavors of ECUs as possible with the bare minimum of "ok"
* marketing

Not arguing here - that is why "..may..." mentioned. Had opportunity look to simos related ones from few brands mentioned in trail and few "individual tunes" from UK based "proud by results"  well known titles - left with strong opinion it is nothing about well serving technology rather marketing in chase of profit at any cost...

The biggest difference is that they charge much more for each service than a service performed with equal or greater quality by an independent tuner.    :D

Does anyone have experience with the file service from bc_consulting? The company seems to have been on the market for a long time and appears to be serious.

Apparently the market seems to be changing a lot. Many file service sites are popping up with automatic file generation. Here there is probably % tuning without changing individual values.

Known company - they are vendor of Bflash. They rarely make mistakes in default tunes.

A lot of their diesel shit is classic "square" % tuning though.
I am sure it really depends on the file.

All diesel files i saw from them had "disabled" egt sensor curves  ::)

These files can be used as base, but need to be fixed to be safe...

My petrol file from them was fast, but it raised knock noise factors and boost wasn't controlled.
