Title: reading and writing EPROM PLCC44
Post by: Gizmo06 on August 05, 2025, 12:18:59 PM
Hello everyone,

How can I read my PLCC44 EPROM on my A4 1.8TQ AEB (M3.8.2) ?
I'd like to read my original map to save it, and write a modified one.

I've found this one (https://www.amazon.fr/DollaTek-Programmeur-universel-adaptateurs-Remplacement/dp/B0CXSYRL4L/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1OU07PYUNFY2H&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7dCK1Opvo9n92WUnuTxF1KOWawiFfumUzJ-4v521pjS8t-VN9E2zJVTMFUr2MBQgh7EBBdxhSTbsTDnoclsOxpxgkONmf3CPu9Spaq1Th77B_cRlI6Gm9fh4DOL7v_9rx3QhS-RcupFO_NQuyiARwHZXm-PikK3ZBnq5qzSXE4u8zg-pxk8ju8KJFtwki5tQkOBSZ3zTmouRke5aOTDVDw.ympAKGFUMro7igO9hyIq98vq-ipgNrSRc9WABFbePDI&dib_tag=se&keywords=Mini+Pro+TL866&qid=1748587791&sprefix=mini+pro+tl866%2Caps%2C307&sr=8-2), is it good for this job ?

Thank you.

I'll buy it, I'll keep you posted

To write a modified file, you need to buy a new clean chip (for ex. M27C1024), since the original chip is OTP and cannot be reprogrammed.
New chip is not flash and is also OTP - you can program it only once.
By the way, the original firmware dumps are freely available on the Internet.
Just read and publish the ECU ID information from the label.

Thanks for the clarification.
I'll check the exact part number of my chip before ordering one.

No need to check.
You will find the Bosch B58548 chip there.
This is a re-labeled obsolete TMS27PC210-12FNT chip, and you can't buy it now.
Just buy the available analog - M27C1024 in PLCC44 package.

Great.
Thanks for the information.

Hi,
I've received the T48 programmer (this one (https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0CXSYRL4L?ref=fed_asin_title)).
In the list there is not the ST M28F102. Do I have to read and write with M27C1024 DIP40 option ?

If it´s not listed, then I guess is not suported

Hi, its listet in description : " 27/28/29/39/49/50; 24.25.45.93.95 ". This thing should be able to program 27C.., 28F.. and 29F..

First I tried to read an old eprom M27C1024
(https://i.postimg.cc/wtQZr8Pj/eprom.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/wtQZr8Pj)

but there is a pin connection error
(https://i.postimg.cc/2Lkzt7TP/Capture06.png) (https://postimg.cc/2Lkzt7TP)

I've checked if the eprom is well plugged : it's OK.
So I don't know what wents wrong :-(

This is TMS27c210 chip on your picture.
TL866 gang programmer should support it.

BTW there is a strange picture on the ZIP socket - it looks like the chip adapter is installed upside down

I've found a problem : the adapter was not wired correctly for 27C210 / 27C1024

This is how it's wired on the adapter
(https://i.postimg.cc/D8cGG04Z/PLCC44-DIP40.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/D8cGG04Z)

Pins 12 and 34 are not connected.
They should be connected to GND.
I've done the modification :
(https://i.postimg.cc/ykBDPK0b/Whats-App-Image-2025-08-13-19-26-10-74c1045a.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/ykBDPK0b)

now the program can see the eprom, but there are still 2 inaccessible pins (contact has returned to 15).
(https://i.postimg.cc/68ZC3Kx6/Capture07.png) (https://postimg.cc/68ZC3Kx6)

I've tried with the second eprom, it does the same error.
So is there an other missing connection, or the problem comes from programmer ?

Pins 12 and 34 are not connected.
They should be connected to GND.

Your adapter is not original XGProg adapter.
Just make sure your adapter 100% matches the image - direct cross pined PLCC44 to DIP4
Then select chip as TMS27C210A DIP40 !!!

Hi Gremlin and thanks for your help.

The adapter was supplied with the XGecu T48 box. But it doesn't appear to be compatible with TMS27C210.
The adapter PLCC44 -> DIP40 provided is for MCS51 (it's not wired in the same way).

So I connected pins 12 and 13 together, and 33 and 34 together (pins 13 and 33 being set to GND on the adapter and being NC on the TMS27C210).

but I can either try with TMS27C210 PLCC44 or DIP40, I have the same error of "pins 10 and 18 not connected".

With the chip on the adapter, I checked the continuity between the pins on the chip and the pins on the DIP40, they are all good.

So either my 2 chips are defective and have the same fault, or it is the XGecu T48 which is defective.
I unsoldered the chips from ECU, they could have been affected by the heat ?

Hello,

I've successfully read my EPROM.
For now, I've read the original one. Can someone check if the file is correct?

Hi,

I have a problem : I can't write on the M28F102 eprom :
(https://i.postimg.cc/NKHKq871/Capture-ecriture-eprom.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/NKHKq871)

The M28F102 is not available in the list, so I have selected 27C1024 (the m28F102 chip replaces the 27C1024 from what I was told).

The chip is well installed on the adapter :
(https://i.postimg.cc/4YqppNw1/Whats-App-Image-2025-08-29-18-20-35-3e3061a4.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/4YqppNw1)

So what's wrong ?

So what's wrong ?

No wonder.
The write protocol for the M28F102 chip is different from the write protocol for the M27C1024.
You can read 28F102 as 27C1024, but you won't be able to write it if your programmer doesn't support the 28F102 write protocol.
Unfortunately your tool also doesn't support another flash analog of c1024 - AT29C1024.

PS: FYI XGecu T56 support both of above mentioned flash chips.

Thanks again for your help, Gremlin.
I couldn't find this information in the product description.
