Title: ME7 Logger unable to connect- found memory differences
Post by: airjawed on August 26, 2012, 12:58:26 PM
Trying to log car with ME7 Logger. My cable and computer work for VCDS-lite.

I got my definition file of 8D0907551L for a 2001 S4 tiptronic...then did the steps according to the links in Audizine for logging. I took a screen shot of what happens after I hit the start logging button.

Do I need to find a different ECU def file or change some settings?

Post .ecu and .log files you use.

Got the ECU definition file from this website.

This is the file I used: http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=6.0title=

I changed the .ori to a .bin by renaming it(what another user with similar car as me had to do and worked for him). Put that into the ME7 log folder. Highlighted it within me7 logger gui and then created a template file.

These are the steps I did: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/479416-****-Complete-Guide-on-How-to-Take-and-Graph-Logs-****

Do you think it just is the wrong definition file?

I'm attaching the files that are on my computer that I used.

Also wanted to add it is not a stock tune...vcds shows I boost higher than stock. A while back I also tried to use the Nefmoto Flasher and it also was unable to read my ECU. Is this just because of some copyprotection? Any help is appreciated.

Generate the .ecu file using ME7Info.
Why would you download someone elses?

I thought that you had to find a file that matched based on the numbers. My understanding was that the file had been reverse engineered so that the logger knew where to look for what. I'll look at the ME7Info thing you are talking about... I suppose this is a utility to make your own .bin file?

Me7info will generate an .ecu file out of a ME7 binary.
After that you can use ME7Info to generate a template.

The .ecu file contains all the offsets and translation values. The template contains a list of variables you want to log that are defined in the .ecu file.

So yeah, pretty much you got it wrong. I suggest reading the ME7Logger thread, there's quite a lot of explanations available on how to use it.

OK thanks... I will try and use the ME7Info utility to create one from my own ECU.

A while back I tried to use ME7FLasher to read my ECU. It also failed to read. Not sure if what I did was wrong (maybe I was suppose to use ME7Info) but here is a screen shot of what happened there. I used the correct memory layout I believe ...800BB. Not sure if this is helpful or not but I thought I would add this screenshot as well. I just assumed I had an aftermarket tune and it was blocked some how.

I still can't use the highest baud rate when in car flashing, only bench.

try quitting nef, cycling the ecu power, and using the next lower baudrate.

Just tried to read ECU using the lower baud rate. Same thing happened as with my previous nefmoto flasher screenshot. It said 'could not verify memory'...would you like to proceed anyway... I hit 'cancel' and then disconnected. I am hesitant to read the ecu when I get a pop up warning. Don't want to 'brick' ecu and then can't drive car and have to buy another tune. I don't have a backup ecu in case of a problem.

Looking at the ECU software and hardware numbers it looks like mine is the same as the one in the ECU definition files I tried to use as well for the logging.

Does anyone think I have a 'revo' or 'apr' tune and am just being blocked....or do I need to try something else?

If you don't know for a fact that your tune is stock, I'd say anything is possible.

Yet another good reason to either throw away a tuned ecu you don't know anything about, or restore it to stock.

It definitely is not a stock ECU(I did mention that a few posts up). I had opened it up before and it does not have a piggy back chip so it must be flashed. It boosts something like 18psi(using VCDS-lite).

I'm trying to log my car to get an idea what hardware I would need to change(probably fueling) since I was a stage 2 tune before(K03's) my forced upgrade to frankenturbos.

I would never flash my car back to stock. I got my car already modified but don't have a proper previous owner history. Most of the hardware I've figured out already...it is just the tune that is still unknown.

I will eventually get fueling done and then retune.

Any other suggestions on logging or connecting?

Update:

Recently had issues with my battery so I bought a new battery.

Now it seems that I can connect with Nefmoto flasher..will try logging next!

Looks like a borderline battery may cause issues with connecting with ECU! My previous battery was starting and running the car fine for 2 years. Only had issues after my fuel pump failed and I cranked till the battery died. Then it wouldn't really take the charge back.
