Title: edc: purpose of torque limit map?
Post by: k0mpresd on September 01, 2012, 09:46:57 PM
so what is the purpose of the torque limit map? besides the obvious of "torque limit".
the drivers wish map in my file has a top limit of 470nm.
i did have the torque limit map in stock form, just raised by %. the stock map has a flat spot in the front though, so i thought why not just max the map out at a full 465 across the board.
is this a bad idea?
i wanted to test to see if the car would have better throttle/torque response down low. i want to say that it feels a little stronger, downside is it seems like fuel mileage suffered. maybe it didnt and its just me thinking it did.
anyways, is this sloppy tuning or is it ok?

stock and 465 map both attached.

To engineer the engine to deliver power how the OE wants it it, and to restrict torque vs ambient pressure.

so since i want the engine to deliver as much torque as possible vs throttle, ect, its ok to just max the map?  :)

Tuned many Diesels?

Which version of EDC? 16 I'm guessing?

Leave the areas where the turbo is not efficient (idle, extremely low/high RPM) stock and ~massage the area inbetween. This map works along with many other limiters and the state of those other limiter dictates how this one should be. I calibrate this map only after I have recalibrated all the others.

what other limiters affect this map?
my tune is very basic. add some boost (2700mbar max), drop requested lambda to 1120 from 1200, and raise drivers wish to 470 basically is it.
thanks for the info btw.

Doing it properly you should still be running on the torque limit.  The basic principle is to tune the other maps to their optimum and then set the torque limiter just below these.

Also 2700 sounds like quite a lot, what is it running stock?  You can't be raising the boost like you do on a petrol engine.
