Title: MTX plugin HardwareID
Post by: ta79pr on September 05, 2012, 06:46:37 AM
Just some general tech support knowledge would be appreciated. I have a number of computers and devices like we all do. Because the MTX plugin is tied to a hardware ID I thought I would put it on our Acer Netbook, that way I can travel with it. The thing is, as windows computers tend to do every few years, the netbook got all bogged down with crap and was due for a system restore. I did so via the Acer restore partition, I uninstalled the bloatware that came back and thought everything was good to go. She ran like new.
The problem is the MTX plug in for tuner pro. It claims that my hardware ID changed. I changed no hardware at all. I emailed MTX (he is on vacation), but I was just wondering if anyone with more IT knowledge than me (which is probably all of you) might shed some light as to how/if a hardware ID would change for a simple system restore with no change in hardware or windows product code.
I am just trying to understand it a bit better.
thanks.

if you knew your original hw id you could have changed it back.

This may not be practical for all, but I have built a virtual machine for all of my tuning purposes.  This way the "machine" always has the same HWID now matter which host PC I am running it on.  Works out pretty well.

ive had the problem too. i got a new key file from mtx. no problem at all.  mtx wrote to me that they are working on a new licence system so we dont have to contact them if hardware id has changed. we should be able to fix it directly via login on their website.

I tried to clone my netbook partition so I could retire it. The idea being I could convert the cloned image to a VDI for virtualbox. I could never get it to boot in virtual box, I think the recovery partition and the MBR got all screwy. Did you just build your virtual box to begin with and have to MTX tied to it? If so, that is the route I should have followed.
