Title: Sketchy eBay GIAC tunes....
Post by: thom337 on September 26, 2012, 03:36:14 PM
http://www.ebay.com/sch/audiparts4you/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

Thought I would post this up and see what you guys think... this guy has several of each box listed as in stock and asks for core in return so it doesn't sound like he's just selling salvaged ECU's with tunes...sounds like he has cloned some GIAC tunes and is re-selling them. I personally think this is pretty illegal unless he is paying GIAC for individual licenses (then how can he charge just $100?). This is the nasty road I think things are heading down.

That Greg@SSP.  And that seems pretty risky to be blatantly doing that, especially as a cop. GIAC isn't small potatoes.

Misunderstanding.

How did you conclude that?

He is in Arizona and that is not his ebay store.

That's a pretty serious accusation.

I'm getting some mixed info trying to do research...have found several places stating that his is Greg @ SSP Tuning.

Quote from that thread:
"I want one person to tell me im lying. I have proof of this because I have a aim conversation where Greg admits to stealing the latest giac tune off a customers ecu. This conversation was between greg and another member of audizine(this member is a guy who most of you look up to for his groundbreaking achievements with the S on pj ko4s)."

Wow, HUGE mistake on my part. I confused them as I have bought something from both of them, and I knew that that ebay seller was from the forums.  It's definitely Greg, as I almost bought a 3l crank from him on that account a few years ago. I made a big mistake on that mixup and edited my post, you might want to edit the quote in your reply as well so that no one gets any wrong impressions.

I actually think it's that Marc guy - 10secS4 or whatever his name was - he drove a nogaro blue I believe?

I had exchanged messages with him a while back over ebay when I was trying to buy a spare ECU.  At first I thought maybe he had just bought a bunch of junkyard ECU's that happened to have tunes and thought that raised their value...  But then I flat out asked him if he actually had ECU's for sale outright or if he was just selling stolen tunes.  He stopped responding and that answered my question.

My advice, if you need a spare ECU, use http://www.car-part.com - I have had very good luck there.

Edit:  Also, shameless plug for buying spares from Tullin Concepts - I've bought a bunch of stuff (engine, driveshaft, instrument cluster) and they are super nice, helpful, and honest.

This just plain sucks. Why would someone do this?
You could easily make your own tune and sell it.
But no, guy has to steal the tune and sell it for 100 bucks. An insult not only to the company he is ripping off, but to everyone else who busts their a** tuning.

I hope everyone understands now why companies spend resources trying to protect their tunes.

But overall, this makes me feel really sh*tty.

What's worse is people buy it.  If you can't afford to spend the money on a shelf tune and resort to spending $100 on a stolen tune, you sure as hell can't afford to own one of these cars.

It's not Marc, he has better things to do with his time and makes way more money these days.

Yes I agree he did that, he is not doing it anymore to my knowledge.  Moved on.
