Title: Can VIN be changed in VAG cluster?
Post by: kirkmiles88 on October 07, 2012, 04:55:00 AM
Im running a REVO stage 2 map(second hand ECU), I have the immo removed at the moment due to not having the original EEprom and map locking if matched to my VIN. Is it possible to change the VIN in the cluster EEPROM to match the one stored in the ECU? Thanks in advance

You can clone a cluster with vag commander.

I dont have the cluster from the original car. The guy sold it before i bought the ECU. I just wondered if i could change VIN in the cluster Eeprom manually to insert VIN from ECU Eeprom

I would imagine you can. I have played around with vag-commander, and it can create a dump of the entire cluster. With that you can clone that info to another, but my thinking is that unless you know where the vin is stored, it'll take a while. If you had the old cluster it'd be cake. You can use the earlier (v3.0beta and v2.5) software with a standard dumb interface, but don't get the earliest versions as I was unable to get them to connect as the connection type can't be altered (my c5 needed k-line selected to connect). Good luck! I'd take a crack at it if you were local.

Attached are dumps of two clusters, maybe that'll get you somewhere.

why do you want to do this anyways?
the ecu will be plug and play to your car with the immo off.

I think he was hoping it'd be easy?

I would just rather have my immo active, Just wondered if it was possible. I have VAG tacho which can take a dump of the immo eeprom. I also have the VIN & SKC info from the ECU eeprom im wanting to transplant. Once VIN has been trasplanted i guess i could match to the car using VCDS and would work ok?

If you got your EEPROM and your cluster to match, you would still need the correct immobilizer 'pill' inside your key fob, correct?  Other than simply disabling, my immo experience is limited, but is it right that there's 3 places that need to match for you to be able to start a car with active immobilization, the 3 places being the 95040 EEPROM in the ECU, the cluster, and the pill chip in the key?

I've been thinking about trying to activate immo on my B5 S4 (euro S4's had it, but none of the North America versions do).

Depends on what immo he has.

I don't know which Immo you have, but if you have immo3 and know your cluster's SKC and the used ECU's SKC, if I'm not mistaken this video says you can change the VIN and immobilizer serial in the ECU using VAG-COM.  Start from 3:30
