Title: spare ecu, same tune, different results? CEL and 8 codes vs NONE? Post by: ddillenger on October 11, 2012, 06:57:13 PM I picked up a spare ecu (removed from a 2001 audi a6 2.8 quattro with tip, my car is a 2000 a6 quattro 2.7 with m6) today, installed it, and flashed it with the same tune that I have on my ecu. The flash logs show 0 errors, it flashed in roughly the same amount of time, but when I started the car it immediately ran rough. CEL came on with the following codes.
Control Module Part Number: 8D0 907 551 M Component and/or Version: 2.7l V6/5VT G 0002 Software Coding: 06611 Work Shop Code: WSC 87119 8 Faults Found: 18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30: Voltage too Low P1602 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 18058 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from Instrument Cluster P1650 - 35-00 - - 16514 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit P0130 - 35-00 - - 16534 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B2 S1: Malfunction in Circuit P0150 - 35-00 - - 16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 35-00 - - 16685 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected P0301 - 35-00 - - 16687 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected P0303 - 35-00 - - 16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0302 - 35-00 - - I cleared them, but they came back. Funny thing is, with my original ecu and the same tune I have 0 codes and a smooth idle. With this ecu I have a shaky idle, and an obvious misfire, not to mention the oxygen sensor codes. If there was an issue with the memory layout, I assume I'd get an error before it even started writing (the size being written wouldn't match the sector size-correct?) I even re-wrote the same tune, and got the same results. What gives? The logs show nothing but successful reads and writes. Anyone had an issue like this? Could this have anything to do with the fact that the 2.8 uses 3 coils and a wasted spark design, whereas the 2.7 uses COP? I figured the flash would overwrite this. And why the 02 sensor codes? I could see if they were bad, but the original ecu shows no signs of failure. Title: Re: spare ecu, same tune, different results? CEL and 8 codes vs NONE? Post by: ddillenger on October 11, 2012, 08:18:50 PM Normally this would lead me to conclude I have a bad connection, other than the fact that I di-electric greased everything, and the board and components inside the ecu look fine. Funny thing is, the ecu had stored codes very similar from the previous car.

Title: Re: spare ecu, same tune, different results? CEL and 8 codes vs NONE? Post by: ddillenger on October 11, 2012, 09:22:56 PM I'm looking into that now. Most of the time (at least in my experience) that's the case the ecu has guides to prevent installing it in another application. It is an me7.1 ecu, and the boards are identical. I have also verified the memory layout to be the same (the eprom has 29f800bb printed on it). You can clear the codes, but they come back after a minute or so.

Title: Re: spare ecu, same tune, different results? CEL and 8 codes vs NONE? Post by: ddillenger on October 12, 2012, 08:45:47 AM Care to be more specific? Anyone have pinouts of a 2001 2.8 ecu? 3b0907551ab if that helps.
Title: Re: spare ecu, same tune, different results? CEL and 8 codes vs NONE? Post by: IamwhoIam on October 12, 2012, 04:05:59 PM 2.8 30v has wasted spark with 3 coils (IIRC), 2.7TT has 6 coilpacks. I am pretty sure that the ignition driver will be different between these 2 ECUs, therefore leading to the issues you're mentioning. It probably only runs on 3 cylinders with your 2.8 30v ECU, which also seems to be confirmed by your fault codes. Just get a spare 2.7 box and be done with it.
Title: Re: spare ecu, same tune, different results? CEL and 8 codes vs NONE? Post by: ddillenger on October 12, 2012, 09:55:34 PM Fair enough. If you read my initial post, the wasted spark was indeed what concerned me. It does run on all 6 cylinders however, but the longer it runs, the more misfires it logs until it has faults for all 6 cylinders.
