Title: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? Post by: vtraudt on December 18, 2012, 10:10:37 AM I am still limited with my 1.8T AEB setup (custom K04, Giac PC16, Bosch 0280150945 315cc injectors 3 bar FP) by hitting the MAF limit (currently 193 g/sec).
I have a larger VR6 housing (ca. 30% larger cross section). Is anyone aware of a tune that eliminates the MAF limit (larger MAF) for a bit more flow? Or even have an ECU I could try in my AEB? How bad would it be (and risks) by faking the ECU with 30% larger MAF and 30% large injectors? regulatorfix@gmail.com Title: Re: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? Title: Re: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? Post by: vtraudt on December 18, 2012, 05:02:13 PM Was told that 183 g/sec is the limit. Not sure if volt or motronic. I have not found a data group in cagcom that shows maf voltage. How can I tell?

What is the voltage limit (assume 5V or slightly less)? How can I measure it? What is the motronic limit for my AEB ECU? Title: Re: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? What 'real logger' do you recommend for the AEB ECU, smartypants? Title: Re: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? Post by: prj on December 19, 2012, 09:05:32 AM Btw if you enlarge the maf diameter and fit bigger injectors, then you will overadvance the ignition timing.

So no easy way to get past the MAF limit? What IS the limit of the stock AEB MAF (flow and Volt)? Can the volt me logged (VAGcom for example)? Measured? (how, what wire)? How can I tell if I maxed out the MAF? Title: Re: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? Post by: nyet on December 19, 2012, 09:55:55 AM Sorry. Wasn't paying attention.

Everything can be done with the right tools, but there are no publicly available ones for this ECU. IIRC the limit for the stock maf in it's stock housing was somewhere around 240hp. The VR6 housing allows to go further than that. The VAG com limit you will find if you look at the OBD I protocol and how the MAF value is calculated from the two bytes. That said, don't focus on the flow numbers too much in VAG-COM, there are very few aftermarket tunes where the MAF is scaled correctly. Basically, to tune this ECU you will need a 16 bit emulator with some creative cabling and you will need very good understanding of the old school data logging protocols. Either go to a professional with this who can do a live remap (do not settle for someone who just changes chips) or go with a standalone ECU. If you just need this to tune your own car, it's a huge waste of time as the hardware requirements to get into the game are pretty steep with this particular ECU. An option is to swap to an AGU ECU, that has a full DAMOS available and is OBD flashable and is plug and play compatible, but again, you won't really have any data logging besides VAG-COM unless you are willing to implement the mcmess protocol. I would not say it's cheap and easy, as IIRC the loom is different... Not to mention the DBW throttle that will need to be installed. Title: Re: 1.8T AEB - MAF limit - tune for larger MAF? Post by: ddillenger on December 20, 2012, 11:08:13 AM The harness is definitely different, and it would require the o2 sensor as well, but he would have a much better setup when it was all said and done. I guess it all depends on his overall goals.
I meant cheap relative to the cost of many of the popular mods done on these cars. 100 bucks from a wrecker. |
