Title: Thermostat maps
Post by: supra94tt on January 21, 2013, 05:06:08 PM
Hi guys, sorry for  noob questions :),  so I got me WinOls and MPPS, got the bin file and was looking at it but it's not easy to find anything, lol. I'm trying to find and modify thermostat maps for my M62TU(ME7.2) engine so it does not run at 110C all the time, any tips/pointers on how to accomplish this? The car BMW 2000 540.

I don't know about your car, but ME7 does not control the coolant system. Operating temp is determined by the thermostat/thermoswitch.

Lol, you really did not read my post, did you? Is English your second language? If so, I excuse you, lol, it's hard to comprehend a question if you do not know the language. So thanks, but no thanks, your help is not appreciated as it does not pertain to my question/task. I did not ask how to build a box to control the thermostat(old news), did I??? And yes, the thermostat is controlled by DME and there are maps for it.

Read the 1st link specifically pages 10 & 11, it specifies that the thermostat map is controlled by engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, intake temperature and coolant temperature.

Unbelievable, lol, I know how it works, lol, and what do you think controls all that-a leprechaun? Maps are built into DME, and that's what I'm trying to learn to modify, will you understand now??

There is absolutely ZERO chance anyone is going to help you now. Noone wants to get berated for trying to help. Rather than recognizing a kind gesture, you went off on the guy. Not a good start.

Would you like to get help from someone who has no clue about the subject matter??? Kind gesture??? Of what?? Something I did not ask for???? I was directed here cause somebody told me I could get some educational help with what I'm looking for, it's been over two months and all I got was some unrelated, off the rocker replies, lol.

ME7 located on Audi A4 does infact have this, ive looked at the maps myself, and fact is also that them are present in most ME 7.5:s ive seen.. so why wouldnt the bmws have it?

now if i could just remember the mapnames.. the bosch engineers named it something like "characteristic field-controlled cooling system".. well something similar in german.

just the other day i pulled apart a euro audi a4 150hp AVJ engine that had electronically controlled thermostat.

sorry if i cant be of much help right now but pointing out that there IS such a system and that it IS controlled by ME7.. ill have a look later and see if i can find the maps for you.

Thanks for your input/help :) :) , I just wish I had damos files for my car, the guy who installed winols for me did not supply me with one or even mentioned that it'd be helpful to have one, lol.

Find a damos for a similar car and start hunting..

I don't know if it has what you want defined, but I have several others from newer x5's, and all sorts of me7.2's, so if it doesn't, I can take a look. It'd be helpful if you could give me a map/scalar name, as I'm not going to keep uploading .ols files.

Seems to me dd can help you. That ols is a very good start, should be similar to what you are working with.

He may even have an exact match if you have more information about the ECU you are trying  to tune.

Cool :) , I'll try that, is it me7.2?

I found these thermostat maps in a dated Me7.2 damos file from 1999 from an x5. (http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=2626.0title=)
I'm trying to map the old damos to newer versions with different addresses, but have some holes I'd like to fill in.  ddillenger, do you have any me7.2 ols or damos files that are newer than the one I linked to.  Maybe I could share with you what I have and could tell me if I'm mapping the newer files correctly and also help me fill in some of the missing locations.

supra94tt, I sent you these before, but maybe someone else can help you out if they know what you are looking at.

bump  ;D

Curious if anyone has made any progress in identifying these maps?  I ran across some maps of interest on this thread (http://www.audi-club.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=255074&page=3) for an 8E0 909 557H (ALT - 2.0 NA 20V), I then translated them to my 518AK (http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=5322.0) bin see attachment.
