Title: What are the odds... Post by: Three77 on February 08, 2013, 07:45:15 PM of two ecu's having the same skc numbers?
I ask this because the spare I bought is the same as the one I have in my car, and the skc is identical. Does this mean that no adaptation would have to be performed, or am I completely missing something? Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: ddillenger on February 08, 2013, 07:52:17 PM Is the immo on on the new cluster? Your old ecu definitely has an immobilizer?
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: Three77 on February 08, 2013, 09:01:43 PM Yep, 2001 Passat, Immo II. I bought the spare ecu to flash to so I may keep my original just in case something goes sideways.
Below are the .bin files of each ecu. Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: Three77 on February 08, 2013, 09:05:19 PM I accidentally hit post before loading the second file, here is the spare ecu file.

Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: nyet on February 09, 2013, 02:57:44 AM the skc is not stored in the 1M ecu bin file, its in the eeprom
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: Three77 on February 09, 2013, 03:13:37 AM Jesus... ::)
Thanks Nyet. I like to think that I'm not mentally handicapped, but I constantly prove otherwise. I didn't get a immo indicator, and the car started right up and ran, so I guess this is a moot point. Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: cerips on February 09, 2013, 08:47:59 AM It's 16 bit, 2^16. Sorry that's what I meant, obviously the coffee hadn't kicked in when I typed that :-[ Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: ddillenger on February 09, 2013, 08:56:15 AM Can you get me some pics of the large ecu plug? I'd like to see the guide pin. Sounds like your car doesn't have an immobilizer. Is it ATW, or? Narrowband?

Sounds like your car doesn't have an immobilizer. Is it ATW, or? Narrowband? I dodnt think any us spec B5 Audi/Passat had immobilizers? Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: ddillenger on February 09, 2013, 10:43:43 AM This was my thinking as well. (no immobilizer). What I have noticed is that if the ecu did come equipped it would have a different guide pin than the non-immo cars.
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: jibberjive on February 09, 2013, 03:59:23 PM the skc is not stored in the 1M ecu bin file, its in the eeprom So there's no SKC in the bin, but there are routine differences within the bin that are different between non-immo and immo bins (with the immo bins doing the check routine for the EEPROM, cluster and key), right? Put more simply, one can't just throw an immo .bin into an non-immo ECU (without flashing the EEPROM and/or cluster and keys), and have the .bin work, yeah? Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: ddillenger on February 09, 2013, 04:01:40 PM If you flash a bin that has the immo routine onto a non-immo ecu you will no longer be able to connect (until you put an immo-off file on the eeprom). This I am 100 percent sure of.
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: nyet on February 09, 2013, 04:25:19 PM btw dd, thanks for the immo-off and the immo tutorial. works like a charm :)
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: ddillenger on February 09, 2013, 04:35:00 PM Awesome. Glad to hear it.
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: Three77 on February 09, 2013, 09:11:59 PM Thank you all for the clarification. I was under the impression that our cars did have Immo, I'm glad to hear that it's a non-issue.
ddillenger, here's the photo you requested. Please let me know if you need any additional info. (http://imageshack.us/a/img823/3962/spareeculargepinoutnm.jpg) Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: ddillenger on February 09, 2013, 09:13:52 PM Thank you. Definitely non-immo. If it were immo-equipped it would have a different guide pin!
Title: Re: What are the odds... Post by: Three77 on February 09, 2013, 09:43:17 PM I am so happy to hear this, especially given my complete lack of understanding what I thought I understood. ;D
