The error really had nothing to do with changing speeds and was simply the immobilizer not allowing the read while the ECU was on the bench. The solution was to put the ECU in the car and match it to the cluster or read/edit/write the eeprom and bypass the immobilizer. The legs on the FTDI chip are pretty small. :p

I have an ECU with a switch mounted to the case that i can barely reach while turning the ignition on. Get a bench flashing setup, or buy a spare ecu. Did the same... saved my ass a few times... I brought the switch to be behind the fuse box cover... so I just had to pop it off, press the switch while turning on the ign and voila boot mode. |
