Title: Anyone Using AlienTech PowerGate??
Post by: EuroXs4 on April 21, 2013, 12:52:52 PM
Just wondering if anyone here is using a powergate to flash their cars??I know the purpose of this forum to learn about our cars ME systems and use the nefmoto software to flash. But I am curious if anyone here has experience with the powergate flasher. From what Ive read It looks a a solid unit and can hold 3 different flashes at a time.SO I was thinking,Since the unit can read and write flashes It could be a pretty hassle free solution to reading ME ecu's not all of them im sure. But would be nice not to lug around a laptop to read a ecu.Not knocking Nefmoto software or anything.Tony has poured alot of time into his software.Just seeing if anyone has used this tool and if its a reliable alternative to nefmoto if need be.

The powergate can't read anything nefmoto can't read AFAIK. If the seedkey was changed, or the bootrom altered, it's not going to make a difference what software you use. Bootmode is the only recourse. That said, there's no need to do what you're doing. If you own the ecu with the file on it, install the ecu. If you don't, you have no business using it.

Changing other peoples files is tricky. There are too many ways of doing the same thing. The only way I'd modify a file that wasn't mine was to delete emissions components or change something like a limiter.

I did that however when i spoke to C2 they didnt specify this information i thought that they would know better than me.Now there telling me they are looking into it.Makes no sense, because v2 is supposed to read ecus  however the v2 c2ner as they call it powergate 3 doesnt read or support me7.1 or me7.5 ridiculous!!!I should of gotten a flash zilla and called it a day which is a powergate 2 anyways. So thats gonna be my next purchase.

mostly because the 3 can store up to ten files so ideally more files to test without running back and forth.

Well long story short the powergate3 does not support me7.1 or me7.5 so I am getting 2 power gate 2's instead.

How come???You can modify the powergate II into a full master. So you can read all the cars you want. Its not a bad solution for reading ecus if you dont want to use a laptop.

Powergate 3 is excellent tool for what it does right now, newer cars, very well.  Protocols are being moved over slowely...slower than expected.

Powergate 2 hacked is the way to go though if you want that kind of tool.
