Title: Dumping tuned file
Post by: karrann on April 21, 2013, 10:15:46 PM
So I just bought a new s4 with Giac flashed on there. My old one had the N.VR stage 2 flashed on it and I really liked it. My question is Can i just open up nefmoto and load the firmware to my laptop and then flash it with a different tune? I'd like to save the Giac for future just incase in my computer.

Get a new ECU. Giac uses a socket and another chip.

And you're better off starting from scratch, not from the Giac tune.

Dam, you can't write over Giac? That blows!

Yes you can. Only the older GIAC that used the soldered in chips with encryption boards that required removal and soldering to write. The newer flashes can be written over if you disregard the memory layout warning in nefmoto. Just open the ecu. If it looks stock, feel free to overwrite it. If it has an encryption board (very obvious), then sell the ecu (or pay someone to remove the old chip and install a stocker).

Oh okay. I believe its the newer kind. I read the flash off it and was able to back it up but then when i tired flashing it it was giving me a warning and said flash failed and then i pressed canceled.

Open the ecu, take a picture.

Also, get a screenshot of the error. When flashing over GIAC files it's customary to get a warning about the memory layout not being validated. It asks if you want to continue. If you hit NO, the flash fails. If you hit YES, it works.

This only matters IF you have a flash. Nefmoto cannot write if the ecu is socketed with an encryption board.

Alright. I'll take a picture in a moment and sent it but last time i saw it which was yesterday it just looked like a normal ecu to me.

Did you open the case?

Yes. Yesterday I gutted my downpipes and did timing belt so I took out the ecu before I started that processes. I opened the black box and disconnected the ecu it just looked like a stock a box ecu from the outside. just a aluminum box.

So you didn't open the case then (the aluminum box).

no I didn't. What if i just try to flash it with stock? Will it just fail if its the older one or will it mess anything up?

Just open the box, there are four T15 screws which are quickly removed.

Take a look at the top of the board, snap a pic and post it up.

Its never going to flash to stock, Unless you solder a chip directly to the board.

yes, you have an encryption board. No way to just flash it back to stock.
