Title: Does the 551L box from a 2000 A6 have immobilizer issues?
Post by: stuklr on May 09, 2013, 11:14:44 AM
I am trying to buy an extra ecu. Does the 551L box from a C5 A6, APB engine, share the same immobilizer issues that the allroad ecu's have?

Can I just flash an M box file on there and be good? Thanks.

It will work fine. You may need to use bootmode to flash it the first time.

Ah, thanks. The L ecu's were hitachi maf right? Going to plug this in just to get my car moved.

Yes, I believe it is hitachi. However, L-box is tip (iirc).

I'd just flash it to M.

2000 a6 is a bosch maf, and has no immobilizer. As such, the ecu plug is the same as the s4. If you get a 2001-2002 ecu you will have to modify the large ecu connector in order to use it in the non-immobilizer equipped car, and either defeat the immobilizer or flash it in bootmode as nyet has said.

I ran an L box APR Stg 1 ecu in my Allroad before my manual swap. I had to remove the plastic tab on the ecu's socket so my connector would plug in. There was nothing I had to do about the Immobilizer though. I plugged it in and ran just fine.

But since the 2000 A6 would use a bosch maf, That too will be corrected for my hitachi maf with an M box flash. Just going to put a stock file on it to use as back-up. So now i guess I have two ECU's to flash in boot mode.

Flasing on board in the Allroad is such a pain. I swear the car refuses to flash via OBD. Will have to make a better bench flashing setup.

Thanks for the input guys.

Once you disable immo (or use a non-imo ECU file) it is a lot easier... you may have to reduce baudrate though.
