Title: k+can commander 2.5
Post by: rgtorque on November 23, 2013, 08:22:13 AM
i have had no luck getting k+can commander 2.5 working. i have bought 3 cables. the last one finally has a fdti chip which i have confirmed by opening the cable and seeing the ft232rl stamp. I am running the driver from 2.08.30.9 and it is installed with no issue. it lists as com 10 and ive set tester.ini to 10 as well, though i have also tried com 2. no matter what i do i keep getting "init dog failed". im running win 7 64bit and do run the program as admin.

vag tacho also will not recognize this cable.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a common issue for vag-commander to work with com ports 1-4. I'd start with readjusting the port from device manager, "USB Serial Port" under com ports to an available port in this range. Then do the same in tester.ini and give it another shot. Good luck.

so ive set it to com 2 and others in 1-4 and i still get the dog init failed error. really frustrated. is there anything else i can use to program the correct mileage on a cluster? i have a 2001 jetta and, 2005.5-6 jetta tdi. the 01 burnt the old harness and cluster and the 05.5-6 had a mph needle that was working only intermittently. both clusters are in the car and working but mileage is WAY WAY off on both.

sounds like you havent set up your  tester.ini  file, it should be in the folder that can commander is in when you downloaded it, open it with word and just change BOTH the showen port settings to match your com port numbers, whatever they are.

I realize that is post is nearly 6 months old, but for future reference, I've used Vag K+ Can Commander 3.6 with good results. The cable used is important ad too many assume that you can just use any OBd2 cable and you're good to go.
