Title: bad checksum, car won`t start. need help
Post by: ventovr6qc on April 19, 2011, 07:33:49 PM
i just resoldered a new chip after a bad checksum flash and the car still won`t start.
it can`t even connect with vag-com or nefmoto on the kwp2000 protocol
is it because i haven`t removed the checksum error? if so, how do i remove it

thanks

Did you program the new flash chip with the original image? If VAG-COM or NefMoto can't
connect after soldering in the new flash chip with orig image, you might have a soldering
problem. Check that all connections are fine and that there are no short circuits.
Connection via K-line should work independent wether there is a checksum error or not.

The checksum error is stored in the EEPROM and is not cleared when replacing the flash chip.
You can reprogram the EEPROM or do a complete flash cycle with NefMoto to get rid of this.

Get galletto 1260 and try boot mode if your chip supports it that is. I think you went a bit overboard with the whole soldering activities. Normally, even if you screw the ECU while flashing, you can re-flash once you dicsonnect the ECU from battery for at least 1 minute.
